A different 72 K10 spring question.

Hi have a 72 K10 with a 4 inch lift. I want to go back to stock height. I see front springs listed as factory replacement that are 2 leaf 900 lb. capacity and 3 leaf 1100 lb. capacity. Which is correct and who is a reputable source for them. The rear is blocked so I'm just going to remove the blocks. If they sag compared to the new front springs I'll replace them too. Thanks.

Either should work fine an be correct. There was a heavy front spring option which is what I would guess the 1100 lber is.

X2, there was a standard spring and a heavy duty option. Both should be correct and both should be negative arch.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

Since I'm in the KC area, I will be buying from these guys. I plan on getting one spring next week so I can finish up the driver side before tackling the passenger side.

I also see that LMC carries both options as well.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

I second general spring. I bought a set of rear springs from them for my k10 last year. I've never seen so many springs in one building.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

Another question along the same line. I currently have a raised steering arm. I don't have the original one but I have one that came off a later model truck. I think it was a late 80's blazer. I compared it to my brothers 72 blazer with the stock steering arm and it looks the same but its kind of hard to tell because the one on my brothers blazer is still on the truck. Does anyone know if it is the same? It would be just my luck that it was just a little different and threw everything off. Thanks again.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

I went ahead and ordered the front springs from General springs. After looking at the rear springs closer I think I'm going to replace them too. My stock springs have 5 leaves. I dont see a 5 leaf offered. They have a 5/1 which I guess is a 5 leaf with a straight helper on it with a rating of 2350 lbs. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

Thanks again. I missed those. Is the 1900 lb. Capacity right for a 1972 k10? I've been trying to find what the capacity of the factory 5 leaf is but no luck. I guess I dont know where to look.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

The truck has a curb weight around 4000 lbs. More in the front unladen. So the 1,900 lb spring seems about right for a 1/2 ton load capacity. My suggestion is not to over think it. If not going to haul much go with the lower capacity pack, planning on hauling more use the 2,350 pack. Reality is using either of those springs it will still ride like a 1972 truck.

Re: A different 72 K10 spring question.

Thanks Richard,

I ordered the 5 leaf springs. I was just looking through your build thread. You have a very nice truck. My truck is very similar. It's a two tone orange and white swb. it also has the dealer installed auxiliary tanks. You don't see a lot of those on swb trucks although if I were doing a full restoration I would probably remove them too.
