Angry What would cause a child to...

... mess with other people's toothbrushes? This 9 yr. old girl that plays with my 7 and 10 yr old sons uses our bathroom and screws with our toothbrushes. Three times now! The first time she put toothpaste on all 4 brushes. The second time she put one in the waste can and another in the toilet paper holder. Tonight she put toothpaste on one, stuck the handle of another in the AC vent on the floor and shoved the third bristle first in the tub drain. Why!!!! She lives across the street and my wife hangs with her mom. My wife has said something to her the first two times, I haven't told her about tonight yet, because she's talking with another neighbor. I had to tell someone. I tell you I'm beside myself on this. I threw the brushes away. Just makes me mad, she's an only child and her parents are way over protective but at the same time she can do no wrong. She just ain't going to be allowed to "go" in my house! Thanks for letting me vent.

Tell her to go home when she needs to use the bathroom next time you find that! The thought of someone touching my toothbrush repulses me!!!!!!!!

I'd say go over to her house and throw her toothbrush in the toilet! See how she likes it then! :p

Nah, but like herlonghorn said. Hide the toothbrushes if you can like in a cabinet or under sink. But if its too much trouble to hide em for just her, ask her one day why she does it or ask your sons to ask her.

Makes you wonder how many times she messed with them, and you didn't notice.

Brings to mind the time I came home and the kids were brushing the dogs teeth with my toothbrush. I cringe at the thought of what else has gone on, but what don't kill ya makes you stronger.

Could it be she doesn't have her own tooth brush at home? Far fetched maybe but she is fascinated with tooth brushs for some reason.

Have her parents been told about the situation or will they just not believe she does this?

I know she's young and all but I would personally take her aside and confront her about it. Let her know that you know about it and that it's unacceptable behavior and it will not happen in your house....or she will not be invited back.

i had to deal with a similar situation. my dads ex-girlfriends daughter (who was nine)would go to the bathroom and toss the roll of toilet paper in to the toilet. i found out that she was doing it because of rather nasty comments made by her mother behing my back. i dont really have any advice on solving the problem because my problem was solved with a restraining order now if the little B*tchs mother comes within 100 feet of me or my property i can deal with the problem with whatever caliber i have on hand

Well my wife talked with her mother about 1 hour ago, and they confronted her and at first she lied then told another and another and then her father talked to her and she fell apart and would not talk to my wife. She did not know my wife was there at first. her father is beside himself and told my wife and his wife that she needs to see a shrink because that just ain't right.

Hmmmm, if you want to cure her, send her out back with a tooth brush and soap to clean up the dually.

Hope there's more to it than that if they're going to send her to a shrink. Granted, messing with some one toothbrush isn't right (I wouldn't be happy) but, it's not requiring therapy. Most of it starts at the home. I've got 6 year old twin girls who know better than that! You tell them firmly and follow up if it gets repeated. If you don't, they won't respect anything they're told (by you or anyone else).
Man, that's just nasty!

The messing with the toothbrushes thing is just weird.

You know, a teacher back in elementary school used to try and scare us with that twitch/twig stuff. Never broke thru. But sure would hate to have to go out and grab one big enuff to get whipped by.

One word: attention. That's what she's after. If I was her parent I'd spank her butt, and make her brush her teeth with her finger until she could proove she was grown up enough to know how to use one.

Sounds like we grew up under the same Disipline.I learned right away not to get the flexible little green ones

Only child, and one that can do no wrong, that's the whole problem IMO.Hopefully the parents have enough sense to know that she isn't perfect, and is capable of doing things like this, and a couple of pops on the backside will straighten things out.

the first post mentions overprotective, and many times that means the parents let 'em do whatever they want at home so she feels she can do whatever she wants wherever. the arse whuppin and punishment usually cures this type of behavior, but we are only diagnosing from afar. mmmmmm? my nephew is 6 and has type 3 diabetes and his parents are afraid to punish him and he does whatever he wants at home (and i mean whatever). when he comes into our home i remind them to not let him out of their sight cuz he destroys everything he touches, and the ultimatum is to not bring over.

I wasn't going to get into some of the other problems, but let's just say she had a run in with bullies at school, but when it came down to it she was lying and wanted attention because the girls would not talk to her. She had actually threatened to stab them with a pencil. They were going to beat her up for tattling. My 10 yr old and her are in the same class. I gurantee a day does not go by that she does not "forget" some part of her homework and Trevor(10) gets a phone call asking if she can borrow his. She's an only child and will not hesitate to go home if she does not get her way when playing with the other kids in the neighborhood. So much so some of the other kids will not come to our house if she is there.
Randy, I'll see what I can do.
