New guy on the block...
Howdy everybody.
![]() So I guess a little about me. I live in Williston, North Dakota, a little city of about 13,000 people, a lot of us are rednecks, and it's a nice place to live, being the town's not too big, but not too small, and there's about four or five parts stores (one of which is only about two miles from where I live ![]() ![]() My first vehicle was a little dinky 2WD 4-banger Nissan pickup, took me about a week to blow the motor in that thing ![]() Anyways, you all probably are like "to hell with you and your stuff, tell us about that 69!!" and well, couldn't blame ya. Onto that ole' red beast. She originally started as a farmtruck, I believe, with the inline-6. Well, the old farmer I think sold it to some kid a few years ago, who threw a rod in the L6, and dropped a 350 in there, supposedly rebuilt it. The exhaust is real lovable... about the only thing the same on either side of the exhaust are the flowmasters, which go into about a foot or so of pipe, and one side goes into a 12" glass pack (the other into a 15" glasspack, or something like that) and the shorter one goes into a nice exhaust pipe that curves out, about 2ft long or less, maybe (the other side comes out a straight pipe about 12-24" long, also) But that'll be fixed up when I run into more money. Currently, she needs the idling changed so it'll idle on it's own ![]() So, all in all, my nice new 69 is a little project, not too bad. Floorboards rusty, rockers are barely eaten through, cab corners are trash, and under the battery is a little gone, very little rust beyond the very usual stuff, I guess. Not a bad little project for this new mechanical teenager to get his hands into, I would say. So anybody who's gotten to this point in reading so far (Sorry if I have hurt your eyes with so much reading, or bored you to death) I guess thanks for listening to my 2-cents of a story, and I guess thanks to anybody who right off the bat could tell me whats up with that goofy intake thing, and the exhaust coming out of it. Oh, and no I don't have any pictures of the 69 yet, but as soon as I get ahold of a bud's digital camera, I'll snap a whole bunch for yall to enjoy and oggle at (probably thinking of stuff I could do) Now I dunno what I have planned ultimately for the truck, but for sure it's not going to get lowered any, and I would like to drop it on a 4WD chassis, and convert the thing to 4WD, which would be ultimately cool for up here. But finally, you readers have reached the end of a very long greeting from this new guy. Thanks, and hello, y'all. |

Wow! That was a pretty lengthy introduction, but it was also very well written. I am guessing you are not the typical 17 year old boy that struggles in school. I sense behind that mechanical appitude there is a young man that does very well in school, and is destined to go far in life.
It sounds like you have a pretty decent project. It was cheap enough to fit your budget, and not too far gone that you can't afford to bring it back to life. Since you already have decent daily transportation, take you time and enjoy the resurrection and restoration of your truck. By all means, get some pics so we can share in your excitement....

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi. The schools in ND must be way better than the schools around here, because that was a very literate post. BTW check out the FAQ page for lots of good info on these trucks and how-to's on the popular mods.

Welcome from NorCal! Always good to see another young'un interested in these old trucks. This is a great board with tons of helpful enthusiasts, and nobody gets ragged on for asking "dumb" questions (no such thing around here!).
Only thing I can think of is the exhaust crossover in the intake (to preheat the carb on cold starts) may have eaten its way through, possibly at the choke well? Hmmm, got pics? ![]()

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome everybody! (and no, VetteVet, I'm not an English major or anything, as a matter of fact, I do and have hated a lot of my English classes, I guess I'm just good with the way I type, always have been a nitpick for grammar) Anyways, Stocker, these holes on the intake are: a small circular one, behind which is a small rectangular hole, and about perhaps 1/4 inch behind that is a threaded hole. These are located to the rear and passenger side of the carb. (the rear being the end of the motor nearest the tranny, not as you would look at it from the front) I don't know if these were holes for old emissions crap, or why there's exhaust coming out of them, but if I can't clarify anything good enough, perhaps my buddy, 68350, could help, as he has provided the most tremendous amount of help, and I owe him big for that
![]() As soon as I get that figured out, and a new radiator (or just fix my original one), I'm all in the clear basically to get her safely down the road! You sure as heck don't see many of these old beasts runnin around (probably because of that 2.65 a gallon gas prices ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by 69-350; 08-27-2005 at 01:35 AM. |

Well, I finally got around to borrowing a buddy's nice digital camera, and snapped some (about 21 all together) pictures of the ole 69 of mine. And, to my promise of pictures, here are...

And here's some more, I took the liberty to brighten the picture of the exhaust up a lot so you could more easily see it's nice symetry
