should i resurface the rotor
i am putting new disk brake pads on the front of my 96 k1500. first time in 90k. one rotor was groved deep, but was enough left to have it turned down. the other one looks real smooth with no groves. is it necessary to have it turned or car i just put in the pads?

rotors should be the same thickness. having rotors that are different thicknesses will cause a pull under braking towards the thicker side.

Yes always turn rotors when installing pads. The pads will last much longer. And it is OK to have rotors of two different thicknesses. I turned at least two sets of rotors a day when I ran the machine shop, and I can't remember when two ever turned out to be exactlly the same thickness. Calipers are designed to compensate for that. If it pulls, then there is a caliper problem.

that is, when both calipers are turned, it is ok. having one turned, due to deep grooves, and leaving the other unturned isnt a good idea. it will cause a pull.

for what its gona cost you to have rotor turned you can probally buy new for few extra bucks...paid 45 canadian for mine last week....guess it just depends on how bad you wana stop......
