rear brake squeal
my brakes in the rear squeak real bad. the shoes are only a year old. someone told me to go in reverse at 25 mph and hit the brakes as hard as i can. i do notice that the brakes make absolutely no noise when braking in reverse. any suggestions?

Re: rear brake squeal
Sounds like they got glazed (usually happens if they overheat)
I am not sure if this is good practice, but when I glazed my drum by over-tightening it once, I just took it all apart, then used some sandpaper to break the glaze on both the pads and the drums. It didn't make any noise after that on my truck, but don't do that without the approval of others, cause I dunno if that might cause more issues than it is worth or not, lol

Re: rear brake squeal
Thats what I do in the rear. Use some fine emery paper to do it then clean it out real good and do not over adjust them when you put them back on.

Re: rear brake squeal
another vote for sandpaper .. i use 150 grit .. and lightly scuff up both the pads and the inside of the drum ..... works great

Re: rear brake squeal
how about lube the backing plate where the shoes rest against that is always over looked when do a brake job i use the permatex copper lube and you might as well lube up the adjusting star on the adjuster i see these things rust and freeze up all the time and one more thing did you replace you hardware kit when doing the shoes ?
