Getting My Truck Today - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello,

I'm a new member here. I have been looking around on here for a little while getting familiar with the boards. I'm picking up a 1971 Chevy Cheyenne longbed today and can't wait.

I grew up riding around in my Dad's '48 Chevy and have been obsessed by these trucks ever since. I owned a '66 longbed a few years ago, but got rid of it to make room for the new baby wagon. Needless to say, I've been chomping at the bit ever since. I *shop* for trucks so often my wife finally asked me why I couldn't just look at porn on the Internet like everyone else, but told her these trucks are more fun to look at.

Anyway, here I am. This looks like a very friendly and resourceful message board and I am glad to be here. I'm going to try and post some pictures of my new baby, hopefully I do it right.

Oh yeah, here are the new girl's specifics:

1971 Cheyenne longbed
350 bored .030 over
Th350
front disc brakes
factory air (a must in Texas)
4.11 rear
primer grey (anyone know a good paint shop in North Texas?)

My girl says she's more worried about me leaving her for a truck than another woman

That truck looks great. Welcome to the board. I have just one suggestion, you should take that heat rap off the headers before it rusts them out.

Yeah, I had that thought. The exhaust system is 15 years old and probably needs to be replaced. It is louder than I prefer, so I'd like to get some quieter mufflers to calm it down a little. I'll have to find a heat shield for the starter before doing it though. Not sure why this truck would be any different, but my '66 used to strand me all the time once I added headers. I'd have to get a ride home and let my truck sit for a couple of hours so the starter would cool off.

Is a heat shield for the starter the best way to alleviate that problem, or is there a better method?

All 3 of mine would do leave me stranded until I bought a heat rap for the starter from Summit Racing. It's a good investment and cheap compared to cooking starters.

Nice truck! My wife says the same thing about me and Craig's List looking at both trucks and parts.

She often calls my truck "the other woman".
