Re: swamper trxus mileage

Ive had the same question.
The MT or the STS?
They both look like great tires. http://www.intercotire.com/site35.php

No idea, I got 39.5 TSL Super Swampers on my '79 but no experience with the trxuses at all.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

When I checked into the TRXS I was told they are real soft compound and don`t last long on Jeeps and they recommended not running them on a truck that sees mostly road use.I`d put them on one of my`72 trucks, since I don`t rack-up miles.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

I guess I never considered a 39.5 TSL as an 'on' road tire.

How have yours been driving them on the road?

Mine only see occasional pavement but they seem "okay" when we scoot from trail to trail, not sure I'd want to drive em on the interstate though.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

Kurt,I haven`t mounted those 37s,yet.But,I`ve run SSRs on other trucks, including a diesel work truck w/utility body that weighed alot and they would last a couple years...40k+/-.
The Trxus Swampers would be best for a trail toy or a cruiser that gets occasional use.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

looks like i may have to keep tsl's. I got the truck with them already on it. They are not in bad shape i roteted and checked the air they had 15 psi,20 psi. I put 20 all the way around is that good? i figured id watch them and see what i get out of it. Its not a daily driver but i will go on some highway trips with the truck. So far they seem ok i was just wondering what options i may have. I thought the trxus sts would hold up longer but they sound to soft. I have 39.5 tsl on a 83 3/4 long bed 4 speed so its a pretty heavy truck.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

I think you want to run more than 20 psi on the street for the TSL.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

I had a set of 285/75-16 TRXUS Mud Terrains on an F250 that I used to have. I got just over 60K miles out of the first set. I was so impressed with them that I ordered another set. I got just over 40K on that set and I sold the truck with around/under half tread.

I have BFG MTs on my truck now and I hate them. They're too loud and wear too fast. I just bought a set of TRXUS to replace them.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

So,TRXUS Swampers last longer than SSRs and BFGs?

Re: swamper trxus mileage

I've never had SSRs, but they've lasted twice as long as my BFGs did. I'll never run another set of those turds.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

I have 39.5 trxus SSRs on my 68. I was told that they would wear fairly quickly (by a guy at a tow service, no expert). I have only run them for about 5 months and in that time I might have 1000 miles on them so I don't really know how they will last. Look great now. I have run them only on the pavement as of yet but they seem like a very good tire. They don't flatten out between runs even after sitting for a couple of weeks without a drive. I'v run them up to around 70 on the interstate and I'm very happy with them.
They are fairly soft and when stomped on they smoke really well. That will mess with how long they last so I'v only done that once.....so far.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

Mudmizer,got more pics?Looking good.
EDIT:Nevermind,I see you posted them already.Real nice! But,those are TRXUS STSs.I knew something was funny when you said TRXUS SSR,no such animal. There are two in the TRXUS line, yours and the ones that are more like the other Swampers with a more open tread.

BTW,the guy that told me the TRXUS would wear fast was the guy I was ordering tires from at NTW,one of the largest off road tire dealers out there and I had money in hand.He was telling me some cases of their own employee`s rigs (like Jeeps). He recommended SSRs and after 2 sets on a 1ton diesel w/utility body full of tools (in & out) w/ladder rack usually hauling ladders, pump jacks, and walkboards(8500#+/-),and towing a trailer they lasted at least 40,000mi.I never wear them down too far.
If the TRXUS last that long,I`d like to run them. But I`d have to hear more testamony.

Re: swamper trxus mileage

Special-K, yea after I sent that out I thought about my tires and realised that I had STS. I guess I just got carried away after reading the few posts just ahead of mine talking about SSRs
Thanks for keeping me square.
