Carrier bearing update
I had the carrier bearing replaced for the second time in ten months, i also had the drive shaft balanced again. I was told that my drive shaft was out of phase, whatever that means. The guy that did the work said,if it happens again,he would put in a one piece drive shaft and be done with it. I don't know how long it will last, but it does seem much smoother than before. I just wanted to thank all of you for your help.thanks

Re: Carrier bearing update
I just broke my carrier bearing about a week ago after only driving my truck for a bout two months, and just went ahead with a one piece shaft. It cost me a little, but I am pretty sure i won;t have any worries with this one. Glad to hear you got yours going better though. Good luck.

Re: Carrier bearing update
I've advocated for years that the carrier bearing is a PITA and although it can be set up properly and give another 40 years of reliable use, the time and trouble in doing so -you'd be miles ahead just doing a 1-piece driveshaft. Most econo c.b.'s out there require welding them up completely since the spot welds don't hold and even then it's a gamble.
