17's on a lowered 69 SWB

I have a 69 SWB with a 2.5/4 drop, '72 rear axle and '72 front disc brakes. I want to go with 17" Torque Thrust wheels.

I'm thinking 17X8 front, 17X9.5 rear wheels with 4.5" backspacing. Tires will be 255/60 front and 275/60 rear.

I need to get the tire size and backspacing right the first time. Does all this sound right?

Anyone got a picture with this combination?

You are right on the money. With a '72 rearend, 1" more frontspace on the rear wheels will make them fill out the fenders the same as the fronts.

I'm planning to do the same, but with a different tire size, so I'll be watching. Here's an old pic of Bravedave's truck, which is close to what you're looking for, with 17x8s, a 4" drop in front, 4" in the back, 5-1/2 backspace in the front and 4-1/2 backspace in the back, 255-50 in the front 275-50 in the back.

Re: 17's on a lowered 69 SWB

On my '71 2wd blazer I have 17x8 (5" BS) and 17x9.5 (4.5" BS). The tires are Nitto 450's 255/50-17 and 275/50-17. I think a 60 series tire would have too much sidewall. My drop is a 4.5"/6" all from ECE.

Re: 17's on a lowered 69 SWB

After numerous phone calls to Early Classic and Newstalgiawheel. I ended up buying this.

Front: Torque thrust II, 17X8, 5" backspacing. Toyo Proxis ST 255/60

Rear: Torque Thrust II, 17X9.5, 5,5" backspacing. Toyo Proxis ST 275/60

Cost was $1,700.

Looking forward to the pics myself. Am planning to get the same wheels for my ol' girl. My drop is 2.5 front and 3 rear. But your pics will probably seal the deal for me!!
