High optioned C-60?

Just parted a 71 C-60 yesterday and got to thinking. Other than tach dashes, has anyone found any good correct options in a C-40 to C-60? I have heard numerous time to look for speedwarnings in the bigger trucks, but personally i have never seen one in anything other than a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck. How about am/fm radios? Shoulder belts? This one i parted did have a correct lighted cigar lighter, which is a first for me. What have you found in the bigger trucks that would be the same as a pickup?

Re: High optioned C-60?

good question! I found a cigarette lighter and a radio delete plate in a c50 and a v8 tach/air pressure cluster in a 60 before. but your right, as far as highly optioned BIG trucks, I haven't seen many.

didn't Lockdoc post pics of a white, fairly well optioned 50 grain truck once. I think it had quite a few "creature comforts".

Re: High optioned C-60?

Besides Tach Dashes, lighters, manual throttles, chokes, spotlights, clearance lamps, and a rear cab light, I haven't found much in them before. Seen one with 60-68 tow hooks one time, and I bet you could find a GM CB in one sometime, but other than that, I doubt any trucker cared enough to check the am/fm option or Shoulder Belts. Trevor

Re: High optioned C-60?

I saw one with a big back window, buckets, gauges, and tilt. Unfortunately, it was a heap of rusted crap the dude wanted WAY too much money for.

I am guessing it was a pickup cab you were looking at. I don't think you could get a big back window until the 80s on the big trucks. I have never seen a tilt in one of these either.

They are a great place to look for tachs, but there are not many of those trucks around this area, most here were fords.

Well, you learn something new every day, and, today is your day toomuchstuff! The big back window was in fact available on the big trucks... thirdstreettito has a big truck thread that has pics of several of them. Remember, the General would do anything you wanted back in the day.

Looks like you are correct. The black C-60 in the first few pics is the only one i can say for sure has a big back window. I am guessing it was a special order.
The bucket seats were fairly common, but they were different than the pickups. And for the tilts, the columns are totally different than the pickups.
As far as having a tach cluster, i would say maybe a 40% chance it would have one in this area. (if someone doesn't beat ya to it) Not sure about other parts of the country...

I noticed the truck in the pics had the chrome divider strip. Anyone know if A/C was available on them?

Yes A/C was an option. I have a 72 c-50 that has factory a/c. I have seen two other 72 c-50/c-60 trucks with a/c.

Can you take pictures of the engine bay and where the condenser is located, my truck has zero room for a condenser, no clue where they'd put it!

Re: High optioned C-60?

I was able to grab a 33K-mile windshield wiper valance from a '67 C50 that was literally strapped down and headed to scrap the next morning. Guy said I could have whatever I wanted, so I took a cherry pair of C50 emblems, glovebox door, windshield valance (now no need to smooth off the antenna hole), radio delete plate and ashtray. All so low-mile CA metal that after the initial breakaway torque on each fastener, it was finger-loose from there. Wish the truck hadn't been so Water District-beatdown, it was rust-free but ROUGH.

From what I've seen in the factory service manual the condenser mounts right in front of the radiator just like in a pickup. I didn't think there was room in mine either but after looking there is about an inch, just enough to squeeze one in. The bigger question for me is what was in the cab? Again the FSM suggests just like what came in the pickups, however someone posted some sales brochures here once that showed an under dash unit in the medium duty. Ultimately I'll want to end up with a vintage air or something similar in mine.

Here is a link to the factory service manuals:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=5781194
The service manual for the 68 medium duty is where I saw the A/C info.

For some reason, I sure didn't. Usually I'd snap a few shots of somethin' like that. It was a retired Butte (or Gridley?) Water District truck, just the regular 149" wheelbase, but damn was it low-mile. I woulda' liked to have been the one that grabbed it from them!

Nuts. Thanks for the reply though, still a rare truck and nice to know they were in fact built.

Here are some pictures of my 72 c50 that has factory air conditioning. It has a 350 and 5 speed Trans with a 2 speed rear. It has a 14ft dump bed. It is unusual also because it has duel factory step fuel tanks.

Here's a C60 that even had the factory rear cargo light. I had saved the tach out of this one and still have the glove box door. Parted with the tach years ago.

Mind taking a couple closeups of the engine bay and the condenser/radiator mounting setup? That is a fantastic truck, whoever ordered that truck must really have cared for their employee!

Thank you for sharing.

Wow! I can't tell you how happy I am to see one with factory in-dash A/C. That is a cool truck. I noticed the 10 lug front wheels, they look like they might be the big truck bolt pattern, do you know the diameter of the bolt circle? The 5/10 pattern has an 8.75 inch circle.
