New Alt getting hot

Just recently I converted over from an external regulated alt to a new internal regulated alt from NAPA from a mid 90's chevy truck. I wired it up like the instructions from the FAQ site. Now the truck runs but the new alt. gets really hot. Almost too hot to touch. Before, with the external regualtor the negative battery cable at the battery post would be too hot to touch. Any ideas on what would be causing this?
