Re: winsock error
Well, first and foremost, if you want to just bypass all of this below, please just use XP's built-in System Restore function to "roll back" to a time BEFORE that bad install.
If you want to do things manually, I would start by fixing these lines: O2 - BHO: Ask Toolbar BHO - {F0D4B231-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - C:\Program Files\AskSBar\bar\1.bin\ASKSBAR.DLL (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {F0D4B239-DA4B-4daf-81E4-DFEE4931A4AA} - C:\Program Files\AskSBar\bar\1.bin\ASKSBAR.DLL (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [updateMgr] C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AdobeUpdateManager.exe AcRdB7_1_0 O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe O4 - Global Startup: BigFix.lnk = C:\Program Files\BigFix\BigFix.exe This will not solve your Winsock problem, though. You can try to use this tool to first to ONLY 'fix LSP/Winsock', then reboot the computer, if it fixes the problem, DO NOT use the tool again. If it doesn't fix the problem, open the tool again and 'fix TCP/IP', then reboot and see if internet connection is fixed. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, and if you choose to use this tool (it is legitimate), please follow the instructions I just gave you to the letter. IF that doesn't help, there is another tool I know of that will try to restore your LSP. Winsock errors are often related to spyware or rootkit infections and can be indicative of a deeper-rooted problem.

Re: winsock error
It's under accessories + system tools + system restore. Pick a restore point just before the install.

Re: winsock error
if that doesn't work then I suggest getting a program called XP TCP/IP Repair
Link to site Link to download this has fixed so many borked Winsock and TCP/IP problems in the past... if this still doesn't work then there may be deeper windows problems that may need a networking shop to fix
