dell help
my sister has dimension 2400, its alittle old, but my Brother the computer expert said the hd went out on it so i picked up a good used one i had to put in it after 4 hours i gave up on windows installing tryed the old drive same thing windows would not install after 30 mins ti had not installed anything or made any progress, no error messages nothing i dotn know to claim ti dead or not. is there any way to test a mb? i dont know what to look for next it does ave an intel celron in it

The dimension 2400 came in a lot of combinations from Celery (My name for celeron) to P$.
The base model only came with 256M RAM. My only guess is it will take a while and if you are trying to restore it with a standard XP disc, it is probably missing some essential drivers that Dell needs for that model and causing XP to die (but of course it won't tell you it is lost)

it was dell disk yes it only had 256 but 6 hours is along time for even that

I had the same setup (mine had 512Mb) and saw a similar event when the hard drive was going out... I would suggest trying a newer unused hard drive just to see if it goes... if not then it may be the board or bad memory or something else

changed the mb for another mb i had used the same hd and everything windows installed in about 20 mins, in fact i posting from ti right now lol
