Air Duct Selector Switch Question
I disassembled my interior air ducts this weekend in an effort to try and figure out why I wasn't getting air to the floor duct. In the process, I found this switch on the back side of the air duct selector. When trying to disconnect the plug, I pull the whole "guts" out of the switch and now need to replace it. This is on a 1972 Chevy truck with AC. The GM assembly manual only calls it a "switch ASM". Does anyone know what this does, what it is called and where I can find a new one? Thank you.

Re: Air Duct Selector Switch Question
Longhorn Man,
That makes sense because it is "kicked on" when you move the control from heater to AC. Do you have any idea where I can get a new one? Thanks.....I knew you would have an answer for my question!!! |

Re: Air Duct Selector Switch Question
Today I had a chance to run by NAPA...they didn't have it but recommended a dealership. Dealership had a guy at the parts counter that had been there since 1970 and had never been asked for this part. He steered me to a division of Modern Chevrolet in Winston Salem, NC called Classic Muscle. They had the part (repop) and it was reasonably priced. The part is called "Air Conditioning Compressor Clutch Actuating Switch". If you ever have any hard to find parts, you might try them....OldMuscleCars.com
Thanks Andy for the help...it got me started to a solution. |

Re: Air Duct Selector Switch Question
I'm pretty sure that LMC has this switch. You can also try the vendors on the board I think some of them should have it. That switch is not an uncommon item in the A/C section of most catalogs.

Re: Air Duct Selector Switch Question
That switch is common in A/C work. It's just a on/off switch to cut the compressor on. I have my electric fan hooked to it also. The fan will come on anytime the compressor is on.
