Now with pics!!!
Buddy of mine is working on his advanced pilots license; multi-engine, complex gauges and the like. Has to do a long distance flight, and invited me to go with. It should be about 2.5 hours each way. Leaving around 9 am. I have flown with him a couple times. Flew to Cedar Rapids and back on 4th of July, and was planned late enough to see some fireworks. Nothing like a $100 hamburger run.

Re: Oshkosh for lunch
Take the trip!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a friend that is a private pilot. The last time I rode with him, it was supposed to be the "$100 'burger flight." But the bird he reserved had an anti-collision light issue so he had to take another that was reserved for a later time; so lunch was out, but flying was in! We had a ball. To quote him, "You bank this thing much more, we're going to need parachutes when we fall out." Weather canceled our last attempt at "lunch." We're going to do it again, though. Have fun. I know you will.

Re: Oshkosh for lunch
I've done worse... If we go somewhere like that for lunch it cost about $10K. Of course we have to fly anyway so why not go somewhere that has good wings ya know...

Re: Oshkosh for lunch
Oshkosh hooked me to look.I had a boss who was a private pilot. He used to go to oshkosh every year for the big fly-in/airshow.Well he went close and drove in.Reservations are usually booked for years in advance. It's a private pilot type show and all kinds of craft from all over show up.It's the plane eqivalent of a Rod Run.

Re: Oshkosh for lunch
Made it back safe and sound. Got to Oshkosh around 12:30, and went to The Charcoal Pit for burgers. Then went to the Avation Museum. Only got one digital pic, on my phone. Gotta get the rest developed. Yes, I have no real digital camera yet. Was too short o' notice to borrow one.
Just a shot of the fuel truck, cause o the emblem in the grill. The nose of the plane is in it, the pilot, BJ has his back to the camera. Ok...the one closer, the other is one of the instructors fueling. He's taking lessons at Iowa Central CC in Webster City. Plane was a Piper Archer II. Nice little plane, seats 4, but makes an original VW Bug feel like a limo. Try and get the pics developed tomorrow. Flew across IA at 3500. But hit bumps in WI, had to climb to 5500. Then back to 3500 for the clouds...not instrument rated yet. Flew back at 6500. rod86---There were visitors in the log at the museum from Perth. 68C15---Maybe next time. He has been to Sioux Falls airport before. His now has 12 hours cross country with 2 airport stops. But he is gonna go see his sister in Denver for that one. 6 hours each way and will have to stop around Kearny. One trip to complete the requirement.

Re: Oshkosh for lunch
looks like a good day, I want to start working on some fixed wing lessons once I get this truck finished... I already have a commercial license for rotary wing so it will only take me 20 hours for a fixed wing license...

Cool pictures. I bet that was a fun day.
How long has your friend been in his flight classes?

Wow!, I'd love that. I used to fly a lot with the people that owned SIG Manufacturing Company here in Montezuma. I always thought it was great..

Was a great day. He's had is private license for about a year and a half. Started his instrument rating/ comercial classes shortly after that. His classes are officially over, just doing the instruction and flight requirements. Woulda been farther along, but last winter was so bad...airport snowed/iced in, too windy for the progress flights(have to finish withing like 1 minute of eta, and when wind is high or changes during flight that is hard to do) and the rare nice day he had to work. That first trip with him around this time last year, he had not flown for almost 3 months because of the conditions. Quote:
