Re: gas?

yes, ethanol gas does give you a lower MPG. which sucks because almost all of the pumps around here have ethanol.

Re: gas?

ok so heres my thing flash foods is right down the road from my house and they sell gas with ethanol for $2.50 yet about a quarter mile down the ride from that is walmart and it doesn't look like they put ethanol in there gas(no signs saying they do) and they sell it for $2.45...so is it worth it just to go to walmart

Re: gas?

5 cents a gallon comes out to 1.00 difference in a 20 gallon fill up.
Just go get the non ethenol fuel.

Re: gas?

Except for the e85 which is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, most all brands are switching to 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline. The government is giving oil companies a 50 cent tax break on every gallon of ethanol they sell. So, that means e10 mixture is 5 cents a gallon cheaper on taxes.
But, here's the kicker.....
10% ethanol = 10% less gas mileage.
Why don't they just forget about adding ethanol, and just add water.
Eventually it's gonna be all you can buy. But, I'm searching out the non-ethanol as long as I can.
You should do the same.
Trust me, I just retired from Shell Oil Company last September.

Re: gas?

around here all of them are 10% ethanol, including the wal-mart, I've also stopped buying gas at wal-mart/murphy oil, seems like I get worse milage from those stations.

you may check also, even if they dont have signs, they may still be pumping ethanol, in there.

Re: gas?

Yea, when Longhorn man and i made that trip from Oregon last Christmas in the wagon i noticed it.

I inadvertedly put ethanol fuel in the wagon. Burned through ALOT quicker.

We don't have too much of it here.

Sucks.

Maybe, but it's illegal. By law there's supposed to be a label on the retail dispenser.

Re: gas?

I posted this before, but couldn't find my old post or where I originally got the info from, but all of SC's gas stations will be required to use E10 by 2012 to reduce emissions. It's difficult to find stations without it here in Greenville. It's the stuff that's used in "winter blend fuel" anyway. And some of the stations have a sign on the pump that say's "Maycontain up to 10% Ethanol."

No, I'm not a fan of using it, my silverado sees at least a 1mpg loss with it.

glad we never head east. (mike's in western/central, and I'm in central ohio)
E-10 has been around for a long time, and is more common than most people think.
The comment on wall mart fuel burning fast has been observed by MANY people, including myself.... and that's saying something considering I don't check my MPG but once a year... if that.

Re: gas?

I believe the stations here are required to post if they have 10% ethanol. Some of them used 10% when gas was $4 a gallon. Now the majority dont, infact I dont know of a place that does. Even 7-11 (usually cheapest in town) doesn't.

Re: gas?

Ethanol produces LESS BTU's per unit than gasoline, therefore it requires MORE volume of ethanol to produce the same amount of energy versus gasoline.

I think every gas station I've been to in Illinois says may contain up to 10% ethanol

Re: gas?

IIRC 40% or so of all gasoline nationwide must be 10% ethanol. It's hit or miss where it is or isn't. You may get 2% ethanol or 0% or 10% or anywhere in between. I can tell when I get close to straight gas because I get around 75-85 miles farther on a 20gallon tank of fuel. I can also tell when I get 10% or close to it because then the truck don't run right and I get around 170-180 miles out of 20 gallons of gas. On the old gas (no ethanol) I got around 320 or so miles out of that same 20 gallons.

It's crap gas for the same price as better gas. They found yet another way to screw everyone over again. I hope the airplanes get stuck with Ethanol too, that would be awesome.

Re: gas?

Yes.I don`t give a second thought to patronizing small independants.I actually prefer them. All stations are regualated and the fuel comes from the same sources.
This morning on the news there`s story about an Exxon station that is shut down and Exxon is paying repairations to customers of one of their stations that was pumping bad gas.A local mechanic figured it out.It could happen anywhere. The contaminant destroys fuel pumps, but fast.
