Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
I watched the news tonight and they were talking to a dealer in central Texas, that was asking for their cars back. Wanting people to bring back their new cars because the dealer has not been able to process the govt paperwork and get their clunker money. But yet they had already gotten rid of the clunker cars that were traded in. What a mess.
Sad thing is that they are shredding the cars instead of puuting in a yard so we all can have access to the parts, another part of the govt program to do away with all cars older than 5 years forcing you to buy a new car every 5 years. Last edited by kevmic28; 08-06-2009 at 09:05 PM. |

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
A mechanic holds a tag that will be attached to the engine of a vehicle that was deliberately destroyed by pouring a solution of sodium silicate into the engine at Bay Ridge Toyota in New York, Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009. The car was traded in for a newer, more fuel efficient model as part of the government's 'Cash for Clunkers' program.

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
What a racket. Let me get this straight. First they STEAL $4500 from tax payers, give it to a bank(that they own) to get you in more DEBT. To buy a car from a car manufacturer(that they own)?
Being backed by the government is better than being backed by the mob if your a crook.

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
So what is the long term effect of these cars being destroyed. Well lets see no more used cars, no more junk yards, used car lots, used car salesmen, no need for auto parts stores for the most part. How many thousands of lost jobs will be attributed to the cash for clunkers program.

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
I dont care to ever have another large car payment or new car again. I would rather have an old classic.

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
Thats a nice useable square body sitting there getting ready to be shredded.
Probably a good 350 engine in there and possibly a good useable set of spindles and disk brakes on it. i could see maybe getting rid of some late 70's to early 80's cars but hell they had a 2001 dodge durango slt traded in. Granted gas mileage sucks but thats a damn nice truck. Fully loaded and leather interior and probably 4x4 5.9 V8. Had one and loved it even if it did get bad gas mileage. Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
Don't get your panties in a bunch, it just meant better aftermarket parts support since less used parts will be around for repairs. Congress would have just bailed out more millionaire bankers with the money anyway.

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
you guys need to look into the facts a little better (and post this in the correct forum... where there's already 5 or so threads on the subject)
The cars don't need shredded under the C.A.R.S. program, just the engine needs locked up. Moved... to general discussion. |

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
Most of the captions in the pics said the cars were getting shredded.
"lots of chevy silverados 95-98 dodge ram 95-99 and other good cars.. what a waste " In my book those are good resellable trucks. |

There is a tremendous amount of misinformation about this and a million other things out there. People have begun to treat entertainers and bloggers as credible news sources.

Re: wonder how many fell for this scam...
have you seen a video of a car being locked up? look at the smoke cloud. that can't be good for the environment.
another point I feel should be made. I am in the auto repair business. I like the fact that new cars are being sold. it has to do with job security. in 5 years or so these cars will be coming to me for work. salvage yards are upset about the engines being destroyed. I wonder what percentage of their inbound volume is from CARS as compared to accidents. |

In-as-much as they ride the bus - it's not relevant.
