Re: Reputation points

Its a way for someone to say thanks or give you props. For helping them out. For good info. Or just because. All u have to do is click on the little white scale next to someones online status in the box to the left. Or....you could give them negative reputation. For bad info. Being rude. Whatever the case may be.

Re: Reputation points

They started as a way of separating the wheat from the chaff... in the online world. Lots of bad info being spread about, who do you trust, etc.

Problem with it was someone who was out going, popular, etc would get lots of points... even if they knew very little. And when it was new (7 years ago?) people would go point crazy for a while giving points for every complimentary response.

Then you'd have your curmudgeonly cave trolls like myself stating good info, but the bad info from others with high rep points was perpetrated.

Now "rep points" are generally not used. You can, but most people ignore them. Post count is one way to judge a person's resolution, as is join date, funny things under their names, etc.
The best thing to do, however, is just research and don't stop on the first thread you find or the first answer. If all you find via Google is one good answer in many places from any people... you probably got some good info to go ahead with.

And this worthless a-hole is gonna keep passing it it along to "Site Feedback", where you can find many many threads on this subject, plus lots of other site questions you may have always wondered.

Oh and points given...or at least tried and denied..sorry LHM.

In all honesty, its an abused system that is nothing but a joke. We had removed it for a few years once due to the "rep abuse" (sounds funny, I know) and are considering removing it again. At this point folks give out rep to say hi! or haha your turn etc.. its silly. I have to view the rep quarterly, to remove false negatives etc. The reasons folks give rep are funny....

anyway, rep is what it is, but likely won't be for much longer

Re: Reputation points

Personally, I like them.

Amongst all the chaff, there may be a few gems that represent recognition from our peers for that selfless good deed or the sharing of bits of wisdom without looking for a reward in return.

…besides…I’m curious to see if some of those long rows of green squares force the system to hit
the enter key and start a second row!

Golly, just what might come after being dubbed a “Reputation Wh*re?” ... inquiring minds want to know ...

Re: Reputation points

N'Sync cds...hmmm...think I'll pass. I usually only give points when someone is truely deserving of them.... But they are given out for the sake of giving them out...
