How's this for a project idea?
I just got a replacement tailgate for my '66. I didn't know what to do with the old one. It's not good enough to sell to anyone, and I don't just want to toss it.
My idea is to hang it from the rear, so the logo faces down, and turn it into a flourescent shop light. Does that make any sense? I'll post some pics if I get around to doing it this weekend. |

Re: How's this for a project idea?
I thought about that, but it is so dented up that not a beer can in the world could balance without tipping over (except maybe one of those Heineken mini kegs)
Besides, when I bbq, I would use the entire 8' bed of the truck for a prep table. I make quite a mess. Last edited by slapthefunkyfour; 09-10-2009 at 05:24 PM. |

Re: How's this for a project idea?
That would be cool. Or if your real good at cutting sheetmetal take and trim all the letter out and put a back light in it and hang on the wall. be a cool looking old sign like. Im going to take a old bed and cut it off behind the standard on the rear gate and all and mount on my wall and use as a bench and wire the lights up.

Re: How's this for a project idea?
The CHEVROLET portion of the tailgate is inset, right? I'd bang out the worst parts, give it a coat of bondo and make it as nice as I could cosmetically with a rattle can of Duplicolor and clear coat, Polish it up and cut a thick piece of tempered glass to span over the inset part. Use it as a sort of coffee table (this is assuming you don't have a wife. They ruin all good man-ideas!)
But I gotta admit, I like the idea of cutting out the letters carefully and backlighting it as a garage sign. VERY cool idea too. |
