how much will 4/6 drop run me?? tires or drop the truck??

recently picked up an 85 gmc sierra.
just had all brakes done...which was not expected but needed.
now i know i need some tires. looking for different size front and rear for the ralleys.....but.
im wondering how much a good drop kit will cost me????
no bags or nothing crazy. what i want is good components to lower the truck.
depending on price, i may put off the tires and get the truck down first.
any help on this would be much appreciated.

I have a little over $500 in mine shipped from CPP. I am pleased with the products and customer service. Jeff will hook you up.

Look for CPPJEFF on here, and give him a call. I purchased 2.5" spindles, a flip kit (with c-notch), shock extenders, and shackles. I didn't end up using the shackles, though, so $450 shipped may be a lot more realistic. We cut the coils (1 coil) with an electric grinder. I work in a body shop, so I bolted and welded my c-notch in, but bolting it in would work just as well. I went with the shock extenders to save money on shocks. I think it rides great.

When you call Jeff, just tell him what you are wanting to do. He can walk you right through it, and get you a kit tailored to your needs.

There was a vendor on here guaranteeing lowest prices on djm 3/5 kits. He would match any price, it included spindles and a flip kit. You can always buy some springs or trim yours. I believe his name is norcalss

Re: how much will 4/6 drop run me?? tires or drop the truck??

I did mine for $265 bucks, counting the shipping! 2.5" drop spindles (airbagit, found an ebay ad, got them for $159, free shipping), cut off one coil from bottom of stock springs (3" air cut off, 2 blades for about $4), homemade flip kit, got axle perchs from tractor store (for 3" axle tube, 5200 lb trailer axle $12), shock relocators (djm for $80 including shipping). I could have done better on the shock extenders, but needed them like yesterday and they were the quickest to me.

I did replace all the ball joints (about $80), but yours may be re usable. I did later on add 1" lowering blocks in the rear which costs me another $30. If you aren't in a rush, you can shop around on the net and find some good prices, I also found my wheels on craigs lists for $600, they are perfect and included the new 275/40 R20 Sumitomo tires!

Re: how much will 4/6 drop run me?? tires or drop the truck??

Just FYI a rear flip kit is more like 6-7" drop, depends on the kit...

Post a "want to buy" add on Craigs list, there are tons of these trucks around!

Re: how much will 4/6 drop run me?? tires or drop the truck??

found a kit for 399 less shipping.
coils, spindles, flip kit and c notch. not sure yet if notch is weld in or not...not sure if i need c notch right now, but good price for bundle.
only problem is, on way to work today, truck shut off and wouldnt turn back on. sounded like it wanted to start, but didnt happen. so had it towed to shop that did brakes to see whats going on. guess depending how much this fix runs, will depend on how soon i can get parts to lower truck

how much you think a shop would charge to put parts in?

Re: how much will 4/6 drop run me?? tires or drop the truck??

i'd put the tires that you want on first. that way when you lower it you can get the stance exactly how you want it. also don't forget you'll need shocks for the height of the drop.

I would have no idea in your part of the country what they would charge to install those parts, I would ask a few local shops for quotes on prices to install the parts. That seems like a very good price for those parts.

I would agree about the wheel tire combo first, if you plan on running 15" wheels on it with the parts you found, you will probably have to do a little grinding on the lower control arms to keep your wheels from rubbing them, or at the least, knocking off your inner wheel weights. With the parts you mentioned, you can get by with stock replacement shocks, but you will have to buy shock extenders for the rear shocks. Probably cheaper to just buy drop shocks for the rear and not use the extenders.
