I have a 67 C10 that originally had a L6. It now has a 350. The gas tank sending unit is bad and I am going to replace it. If I stay with the original 5/16th sending unit and and fuel line will it rob my V8 of fuel? I am not planning on adding any Hi Perf stuff just a nice running 350. Or should I switch everything out to the 3/8th. To me it just doesn't seem like that the two hoses have that much difference that my engine would get starved for fuel.

What say you gentlemen?

I think you will be okay on a stock 350

I run 5/16 with my 454 with no problems. The engine is stock and I don't hot rod it much...

My 69, originally had an I-6 and was swapped to a 350 by the previous owner, the lines on my truck were 3/8" (I'm guessing he changed them to 3/8") I went with steel braided lines on the topside and about 24" of steel braid from the mechanical fuel pump to the in cab tank and used the existing hard line the rest of the way. I purchased a new sending unit in my build. I purchased it from Brothers Trucks - http://www.brotherstrucks.com/products.asp?dept=959
and the V8 size was a 3/8" fitting. See the 5th one down on the brothers link, it shows that it can be used on 6cyl. but a reducer is needed. For your V8 setup, I think your fuel line may be needed to change to 3/8"

Leon, are you running an in cab tank or under frame tank?

Thanks guys. I was debating on buying a flaring tool and making my own fuel line with the 3/8th. That way I can make my own transmission lines too. Anybody done that and is it worth the time it takes rather than buying new?

i'd inspect the whole length of the line first if no rust issues i'd keep the 5/16 but if a replacement is due i'd go for the 3/8 stuff

My 67 actually had a 5/16 line with the factory 327. I figured it out when I ordered the V-8 sender and it didn't fit. The only thing I can figure is the factory would install whatever they had laying around. You should be OK; I've got a mild cam and a 4bbl and I've never experienced any fuel starvation issues.

a 2 bbl carb'd small block would have come with 5/16ths line.

If you are running a stock, or even an almost stock engine, and not running it at 4000+ RPM all the time, then you'll be fine.
