Lost my Grandfather today

My grandfather, James Edward Drew, died today at the age of 86. He was a very important figure in my life, more like a dad than a grandpa. So, please keep him in your thoughts, and if you are a father or grandfather yourself, please realize how important your role is in other people lives and how much of an influence you really are or can be.

Rest in peace grandpa.

Sorry man, blessings are with you. I have two grandfathers still but I never had that close connection to them. You were blessed yourself to have a great grandfather.

Sorry for your loss, we are losing a lot of great americans from your grandfathers generation. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

That is a great picture. Would you mind sharing more about your grandfather?

Thanks everyone.

Jim and his wife Esther married young and had three daughters. He served in the US Navy from 42-62, fighting in WWII, and moving his family all over the world during that time frame. He was a devoted christian who would always greet you with a smile and give you the shirt off his back if needed. I never had a father growing up (Mom and dad divorced when I was three, step dad died of cancer prior ro my teenage years), Jim was there for me and taught me so much, from building RC car kits, woodworking, to working on automobiles. I think I was the son he never had. Before I got married in 2005, I decided to get rid of my biological fathers last name and take his because it would mean so much more to myself and future family. He was there as my witness, and was smiling from ear to ear the entire time. The Drew names lives on. My Grandmother died last year, so they are together once again.

Re: Lost my Grandfather today

Sorry about your loss Jeff. I never really knew either of my grandfathers. One passed away before I was born, and the other passed away shortly after I was born. Cool thing is that I was born on my paternal grandfathers birthday. So that is something I always keep dear to my heart.

You, and all your family are in my thoughts and prayers. From what little time I have gotten to know you. I would say he did a great job helping you along the way, and is proud of you.

Sorry for your loss. Remember when my grandpa passed, Feb. '04. Still have the occasional "Brandy Manhattan" for him.

Re: Lost my Grandfather today

Jeff- Your Grandfather no longer needs our prayers. He is where I believe to be a better place. I will pray that you and your family endure the loss of a good man. It sounds as if he did what all of us should hope to do, and that is leave a positive legacy behind when we go.
