Assistance Needed
I have been searching the forum and have gotten close to answering some questions, but not close enough to be confident about doing what I'm planning on doing. So, here goes, and any help is very much appreciated.
I have a 1988 suburban that I bought for parts. In order of importance. I would like to swap the cluster from the suburban to the truck. Will I need to repin the connector on the '87 in order for this to work? Picture from the dash harness of the suburban: I would like to swap the columns. The '87 doesn't have tilt, and the suburban does. However, the suburban was fully loaded and the '87 isn't. Will there be a bunch of wiring that I will have to repin? And if so, where can I find that info. I would also like to swap the cruise from the suburban to the truck. Any pitfalls on this that I should be aware of? I have a pretty good idea on this one, but not having done this before, I thought I would ask. Thanks for your help! Last edited by Blake_H; 11-05-2010 at 05:44 PM. Reason: To load photos |

Re: Assistance Needed
Did the truck have idiot lights or gauges? Did the truck have delay wipers or just low/high/off? Did the truck have cruise to start with?
For the cluster, should be easy enough to just compare the plugs on each, as long as they are wired the same should be an easy switching of clusters.

Randy, thanks! The '87 has gauges, no idiot lights. It also has non-delay wipers, and no cruise. I'm guessing that this makes my goals a little more difficult to achieve? |

Re: Assistance Needed
Swapping the column over will be the easiest part. the control module for the delay wipers is mounted to the under side of the column and is a plug-n-play unit. And since you're swapping from a standard non tilt no frills column to one that has tilt with cruise and delayed wipers, you won't have to worry about changing out any of the controls as you already have them on the tilt column. As for the the cruise control make sure you get ALL COMPONENTS for it under the hood as well as under the dash. to include it's wiring/vacuum harness. You will need to punch a hole through the firewall right below you fuse block for the harness to go through (There is a dimple there where you'll need to drill. just measure the diamter of the groove on the grommet and use the proper size hole saw to drill open the dimple for the harness.
Under the dash you WILL NEED BOTH BRAKE SWITCHES As well as a large black module thats mounted to the right side of the brake pedal support bracket. THere may or maynot be a white module mounted to the back side of the lower dash right under the radio. If it's in the burb grab it as well. If it isn't there you shouldn't have to worry about it.
