Full time to part time 4x4 do I need hubs?
I've got a 1975 blazer with an np203 transfer case. About a year ago the front drive shaft broke and was removed. So far I have not replaced it. I did just have a part time kit installed in the transfer case. In order to install a new front drive shaft and have 4x4 operate correctly will I need to replace the full time hubs with manual locking hub?
Thanks. |

You can run part or full time 4wd with the full time 4wd slugs in the hubs. It's the same as driving with hub locks in the lock position.
If you want to disconnect the axle from the wheels install manual hub locks.

There are some advantages of manual - with them unlocked the axles and driveshaft won't spin, reducing friction and any vibrations - but they aren't mandatory.

it's worth it. factory spicer hubs are pricey, but Warn Premium locking hubs aren't too bad and they're plenty tough. About $150-270 new, depending on which ones you buy.

If your putting in a part time kit its silly NOT to put in manual hubs. The point of the part time kit is to take stress and wear off the front components. You can only complete this with a part time kit.
