Summit lowering springs

Any one used these? Wondering how much drop they actually give since it says 1-3.

Nevermind answered my own question. Looked at the application tab and it said 3" drop.

some say a 2" drop Springs or (cut a coil off stock springs) with spindles for additional drop.dont quote me on that.

I kept looking and found the 2" ones. That's what i was looking for originally. I figured mine probably already sagged an inch so going with 2" might just put me where i want.

I had some 1" lowering springs located from a website, but I can't find it again. Has anyone seen some?

I have the Summit branded springs on my truck. Just like the pictures posted above, Ground Force springs. I don't mind the ride. But thenm again, I had a Jetta about 6 years ago that had coilovers on it and rode like a go kart.

yeah, i had the 3''s before and they sucked, i went with the 2''ers.

The only company I have found that makes 1" drop springs is Belltech. They are basically a perfect replacement for 30 year old originals and sit at basically the same height . If you have your original springs in place , 1" springs wont change the height any . This has been my experience with them .

The ride should be fine, with the correct drop shocks, and trimmed bumpstops.
The height of the crossmember from the ground, is the real issue.

I see tons of members install a 3/5 "spring only" drops on their trucks, because it's an affordable drop.
No one complains about the ride quality.
BUT,... when you add a 3" front spring to a drop spindle,... everyone acts like it's some kind of voodoo!

Anyone going with an 5"-6" front drop has to realize there are going to be issues with the inner fenders, front tire height, and speed bumps.

So what's all the ride quality concerns?

the main concern was with the spring itself moving around. since my floor jack was not low enough to fit ynder the LCA id have to jack my truck up from the cross member, both springs would move around bad. i have some decnt drop shocks and it was still just a stiff ride.

Man y'all got me concerned I'm going too low. Guess Ill find out huh. Ordered the springs and drop shocks this AM. Think i might go to harbor freight this weekend and pick me up a jack. One of them fancy aluminum ones. Trick to their jacks are as soon as you get them tear the pump apart and remove all the shavings and put it back together and it'll last awhile then.

LOL I just saw an add in the Super Chevy mag for a aluminum harbor freight jack for $59. I think I may travel down to the local HF and check it out. I need some more jack stands anyway.lol

On what year truck? 67-72 maybe, but not on 73-87's. Yes I know the frame and suspension is basically the same, but there is enough difference that a 3" spring on a 73-87 will result in an unhappy truck owner.

The spring is too short to allow for decent travel. Adding the right shock helps some, but not enough. My experience has been that a 3" drop spring is just not a good choice.

Are you saying that for old guys that care about ride quality it's too stiff, or it's so stiff it can break other parts if you hit a pot hole?

You see the springs I posted in the pics above. They were 3 inch drop springs. They rode the worst of any spring I have ever owned and I have owned many, many, many lowered trucks. It was so bad I replaced them with different springs within a few weeks. I ran them with Doetsch Tech lowered shocks and no bumpstops.

That said, it was the spring itself that was the problem. I can cut a stock spring 1 coil to get 3 inch drop and it rides fine, but those custom 3 inch springs are way too stiff.

I will never buy another set of 3 inch lowering springs after that. If I want three inch drop I'll modify the stock springs. Scoti warned me about this and he was 100 percent right.

I value your opinion, as well as SCOTI's and other's here.
Now it sound's like it's boiling down to just the 3" spings,... period?
Or just this Ground Force/Summit brand of 3" spring?

I too have run stock "cut" springs with a 3" drop.
I've also trimmed 2" drop springs to create a 3" drop.
I have a set of these Summit 3" drop springs in my red '69 right now.
(I've only driven it about 50 miles, though)

Just trying to understand, if it's just these springs or all factory manufactured 3" drop springs that everyone hates?
Sounds like the Summit brand is out.
What about other brands?
Any other members, running 3" drop springs,... want to chime in?

Its been a while since I ran a set. I know it wasn't Ground Force, so its not just the brand. What I do know is Kevin is 100% correct that Ground Force makes a good spring but not in a 3". Scoti and I have compared notes along with many others who have had a similar experience with various brands of 3" springs.

The general consensus is that cutting a stock spring to gain a 3" drop works just fine, but a 3" lowering spring does not.

I am saying its too stiff and bottoms out. Even the young guns don't care for them, so I think thats pretty stiff.

I like mine, the only qualifier is that they will bottom out on a bad bump if you don't trim the bump stops. But the ride is good.
