S-10 T-5 Help

Need a little help... Have a lead on getting a 1988 S-10 T-5 transmission... I am wanting to put it behind a 250 6 cylinder.. We have the bell housing to run a Saginaw...I know that the input shaft is about 9/16" too long on the S-10 T-5,so a spacer will be needed... I would assume that we get the clutch that goes with the 1988 S-10 t-5?

So all that we need to do is use the Saginaw bell housing, 9/16"spacer, and new clutch for the s-10? Are we missing anything?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: S-10 T-5 Help

Thanks for the info..

I still am a little confused about the clutch setup.. I have read in other write-ups that you just use the clutch that corresponds with the transmission that you are using.. Am I reading this correctly?

Thanks

Re: S-10 T-5 Help

yes I have read the sticky... just trying to get all my info correct...

I think I have figured out the clutch setup but know I am receiving conflicting info about tranny.... Does anyone know if there is a deference between the 2.8 t-5 and the 4.3 liter t-5 tranny and bolt pattern???

Help please

Re: S-10 T-5 Help

The bolt paterns are the same. There is difference in the gear ratios. Some of the smaller engines have a .86 o-drive. Unless you are running a high gear ratio rear end or have really big tires it would not be a good one to use. Get the 1352-xxx number off the tag & get a chart off the internet & find what gear ratio the trans. are. Some also have a low first gear but you can always take off in second. From about 93 up the s-10 used the World class model T-5. It is a little stronger then the NWC.
Most 88 up used the electronic speedo drive. To use it you need an electronic speedo.

The world class t-5s are only in 4.3 s-10s from 1993 and up!

I did the same swap last summer and I used an 11" clutch disk and pressure plate from a '85 Astro van. You will love drivin' that thing with the OD...

Re: S-10 T-5 Help

My buddy used a camaro V8 5spd, and took it to the dragstrip and everything, He sold it shortly after building the car. Why did it not explode?

I'm knee deep in the T5 install in my '78. I hope I have the same luck as your bud. I drive like an old man, and I only use it for picking up the occasional mattress set or sheet of drywall.

Re: S-10 T-5 Help

The original S-10 clutch disc is too small. You can use the Astro or have one built at a clutch shop. You dont need an adapter if you cut the shaft & coller down to match the old trans. & elongate the splines.
