Re: Best headers for BBC??
I used Sanderson BB8's on mine and I love them. They fit great and look awesome. They are a 3/4 length header. I had to do a tiny bit of trimming on the passenger side motor mount but it was no big deal.

Re: Best headers for BBC??
the best would be hooker supercomps..how hot is your motor though? if its just bolt on just get a set of summits coated headers for 200 bucks and call it a day.

710 hp... Would prefer 2" primary's but can't find anything other than 1 7/8 for a truck application...

Re: Best headers for BBC??
AirMale, can you verify that these are what you are recommending? Are you using them yourself? No clearance issues? Any pic's?

Re: Best headers for BBC??
I'm running Hooker 2455's. Right side had no clearance issues. I had to alter one tube on the left side and grind on the motor mount. For the price can't complain. I do like the 3/8 flange on the Sanderson headers.

Re: Best headers for BBC??
Im running the hooker 2455's on my 70 4x4 and had to shorten them up a little to make a pipe for over the transfer case that wasnt a sharp angle.

Re: Best headers for BBC??
Stainless would be best, you can get them ceramic coated, dark side coated or painted. My budget was running thin so I went with the painted, mistake on my part, should've went with stainless or coated.

Re: Best headers for BBC??
Not to ask a stupid question, but why is stainless best? I thought there were issues with expansion or something with stainless steel???

Re: Best headers for BBC??
I can't exactly answer the stainless vs ceramic vs etc because so many people say one is better than the next but if you do go with stainless make sure the stainless is quality and not some cheap stuff because it can still rust which if your buying expensive stainless headers and the rust comes around no ones gonna be happy lol

Re: Best headers for BBC??
Stan's Headers is pretty nice company and completely made in the USA (i live just a few miles away from their shop). Good quality metal, and thick flange (like 3/8" thick), dont recall the primary tube size though. Just my .02

Re: Best headers for BBC??
I'm a little partial to stainless, I like the way it looks and holds up but you have to pay for it. I had to do a little hand forming on mine and I'm not sure how the coating would've held up? I do plan on taking mine off and getting them ceramic coated someday, should be good to go since they will bolt right on now.
This doesn't answer your question but my observation has been that certain series of stainless are more resistance to corrosion than others. We supply some Mfg parts that are domestic 304SS, corrosion isn't really an issue in fresh water but salt water applications create some challenges. After lab testing, the most cost effective solution was to electropolish the parts after completed and polished. I haven't done any research to see what series of stainless header manufactures use. Like I mentioned earlier, I ended up going with painted headers due to $$$. |
