advice from swap pros
starting to gather parts for the LS swap in my sons 66 longbed. i have a 99 Z28 gas tank and pump. stole that idea from a member here. i bought an 05 5.3 from a friend who owns a shop. i let him sell it cuz a customer needed one and payed a premium. so, now he owes me an engine and tryin to figure out what to have him get. so, here is a list of options. tell me what you guys think to save me any headaches. i plan on just making it a driver for now and maybe mod it later with headers/whipple/etc.
1) dbw or cable? is it that much hassle to go dbw? 2) any other easier tank/pump options that won't cost $1000+ 3) manifold/headers with less headaches. rather do manifolds for now 4) wiring harness, modify stock myself or just buy one done right now my thought is early L33 drive by cable with 4l60 then put mid 90's blazer cruise module on. feel free to give experiences positive or negative and offer suggestions. i don't need a 6.0/4l80 so that is out unless he stumbles on a smokin deal |

Re: advice from swap pros
1. Either one, but the pedal would be easier to mount for a DBW IMO.
2. I would go with a boyd tank ( vendor here) his tank will run around 700. 3. I used CSLS1 Sanderson shorties, they are reasonably priced and work great, TBSS manifolds would be the best manifold option. 4. I would buy a harness from PSI (psiconversion.com) or one like that I put a 2005 4.8/4l60e in my 65, plenty of power, I also swapped the DBW to a DBC, the only thing I need to work on is my cruise and pretty-ing up the accelerator. If you do the DBC just get the cruise module from a truck. also you can get with LS1nova ( I think) he can convert a early 80's van cruise switch to work on your column. Also make sure you check out the LS swap thread here, more information than you can digest.

Re: advice from swap pros
What truck are you working on?
63-72? May I suggest a 71-72 tilt? CPP has a new one available or you can have one rebuilt Posted via Mobile Device

Re: advice from swap pros
66 longbed 283/3 on the tree. still have the 86 front end for pdb/ps. may get back the 2001 bench seat from guy we sold it to. have 99 Z gas tank and pump. have 5.3 shop owes us. just figured i'd snag a newer column for cruise buttons and column shift. i wanna show my son how things used to get done before everyone just opened a catalog. then this will be my work truck till he turns 16. then it will be his DD and mowing biz truck. that is why i just want it stock for now. no rumbly exhaust (he's mad), no lumpy cam (he's really mad). he traded this and money for a 68 SS Camaro project. so, that will be the "hot rod" project. plus i have my roadie wagon we drag race and am actually putting the 383 LT1 we've had for over 4yrs in next year. so, this just needs to be a low maint daily driver

Re: advice from swap pros
I see he's mad about no loud exhaust and no big cam, boy would he boil if you do the swap and set the tq management on high lol.
It is nice though, if you want to use it for an errand runner, sometimes you don't need all the power at once.
