trailer winch
I bought a trailer to haul my projects on. I'd like to add a winch since so many of them seem to be non running at the time of purchase

Re: trailer winch
If it's a ramp trailer I'd go for a 9000# winch. If its a tilt trailer a 3500# should do the job.

Re: trailer winch
Trailer is an 18 ft. Last 2 feet are dovetail. 4 ft. ramps. I'll be pulling mostly trucks. Anything from mid sixties up. Most often will probably be my '68 and then various broken or wrecked 88-98's, maybe as big as a 3/4 ton.

Re: trailer winch
I have a 18' with 2' of dove tail . I mounted a Knack type job box on the tongue and put a battary in it . I have a 3500 # winch mounted in the box . I get by with it , but if doing it over id go 6000 # . A quality 5000 like a warn would be the minimum . My trailer has a rv plug so the battary on the trailer charges as you pull it .

Re: trailer winch
Here's a question. I was just thinking about it. Could you get by with a smaller winch by running some extra pulleys? Here's what I'm thinking. Have a pulley on a chain that attaches to the vehicle your winching and just loop the cable through and double back to the front of the trailer. Doesn't that increase your work power or am I remembering something wrong from physics class?
