Cross Rails for a short bed fleetside.

I was wondering how many cross rails are needed for a 1965 C-10 short bed fleetside. When I bought the truck the bed was apart I only got 3 cross rails with it. I have never put together one of these beds before and not sure how many rails that I need. I have seen anywhere for 3 to 5. If anyone has pictures of the different steps of putting a bed together that would be great to. My bed should be back soon from the body shop and want to put it together and see what other parts I need for it. Thanks n advance.

What I did was I went to the Mar-K website and look them up, it should tell you how many you need.

Of course, I just today got done putting my first bed into my 64 GMC longbed stepside.... and things are still a little confusing for me. See my recent post.

Thanks for the info Alan. Looking at your picture all I need is a reenforcement strip. Do you have any tips on putting together one of these beds?

Mar-K offers a bed assyembly instruction sheet. I put the cross members in laid the wood and strips in place and dropped the main bolts. Then droped the bolts on the inner bedside to the cross sills. Then installed the rest. Don't tighten any bolts til all are installed.

Alan thanks for the info. I was looking at Mar-K web site and they show 3 cross sills and 1 reenforcing strip. They also have a instruction manual for the bed. That will help. I just spent a couple of hours checking out your trucks build. I think I only made it half way through. You have a very nice truck. I like what you did to the dash and the color combo. You gave me a few ideas. I am also using some after market parts and they don't line up very good. Again thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. I have one of their catalogs and will give them a call. It would be nice to find some instruction on how to put these beds together. Good luck on your bed. Your truck looks good nice colors.
