In tank fuel pump meets Carb

Im gettin ready to put my engine in my 85 and my block doesn't have a mechanical fuel boss. I really need some input on using the In tank style with a 3 port regulator (inlet, outlet and a return) -6 inlet, -6 outlet and a -8 return to the tank I'll run the pump on a relay with a low oil pressure cut off. Engine is a 30 over 454 zz502 cam 750 Holley carb and big block Chevelle headers. I would like any input or ideas. All of you fuel injection gurus jump in and help me out. Thanks Greg

What is the fuel pressure rating of the pump? Based on pressure, you may need some hight pressure hose connections. What type of carb? Most need less than 5-7 PSI.

Factory RBI pump somewhere between 40 to 50 psi I think. It's a Holley 750. Yeah about 5 to 7 psi is the rating. Yeah I was gonna run high pressure from the tank to the regulator

You would be better off to just run the AC Delco electric inline pump in place of the mechanical pump.
P/N 6472657 ....about $70.00 at your friendly GM store

The problem with most factory electric pumps is volume. Just because it makes 40 psi doen't mean it will support a healthy bbc. Might want to check on that.

I agree. A inline pump would be better. There are a few that provide low PSI. Look at 87 TBI fuel pumps. You can buy all the stuff from LMC. All you need is a regulator to step down from 15 PSI to 7 PSI.

Re: In tank fuel pump meets Carb

Thanks guys for the input. Is the 87 tbi pump in line or in tank. I'll check LMC. Thanks again. Greg

The tbi pump is in the tank and i think they only put out about 17 psi, not 100 percent on that though.

Re: In tank fuel pump meets Carb

Would I need to run a return line with a TBI pump? If I regulate it at 7psi that's about a 50% step down

Re: In tank fuel pump meets Carb

If you ran the in tank tbi pump and a good aftermarket bypass style regulator, such as the Aeromotive 13301, you would get the pressure you need at the carb. It will also give you the capability of a return line. They regulate fuel pressure from 3-65 psi depending on which spring you install.
