put a t5 onto my 67 250, what clutch.

Howdy.
I hav a 67 c10 with a L6 250 in it. the flywheel is setup for a 10.5 clutch. I want to put in a T5 in it. I am aware of the modifications i need to make to the tranny.
MY biggest problem is finding a clutch that will fit. the t5 input shaft is 1 inch 14 spline i belive. I could just buy a s10 clutch disk and use the original sachs pressure plate but i would like to reduce the pedel pressure if i can.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks, I will give them a call tomorrow. I just rechecked and the bolt holes ate 11 5/8 in apaty so that means its definitly a 10.4 inch clutch

Ah Ha,
Standard Transmission told me pretty much use a 11 clutch out of a astro van or use the 9 1/8 out of a s10 with the 10.5 pressure plate.
But i dont want to buy a different flywheel so i found the following at summit.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ADD-716104/
After reading on their site i belive it even compensates for the splines being cut short so i think this is the winner. I called their tech support and he said any new pressure plate should work fine. Andif i know what modification i need to make to the t5 i dont need their special bell.

I just did the same to my 67. I used a t5 out of a 89 s10 . I used a clutch kit from a 88 astro van and the sacer plate from vintagemetalworks.com. If the opening on your bell housing is 5 1/8 the trans won't line up. The t5 has a 4 11/16 diameter on the bearing retainer. Vintage metal worked mills out he plate with a 5 1/8 on the bellhop sing side and a 4 11/16 on the trans side...good luck

Re: put a t5 onto my 67 250, what clutch.

i had the same problem when i did my t5 swap, go to speedway motors and look for their t5 clutch disk it says it is for swapping a t5 onto a ford flat head but all the dimensions work for a chevy 250 with the 10.5 pressure plate, so all you need is a stock pressure plate, stock throw out bearing and the clutch disk. i've put about 500 mlies on my swap and it's awesome.

any questions feel free to pm me and i'll help ya out.

Looks like you found the 'easy' fix for the S10 14 spline input shaft issue. I ended up using an 83 Non World Class Camaro T5, and swapping out the S10 tailshaft just so I could use an off the shelf clutch plate. You still may need to trim the input shaft where it goes into the pilot bearing, as the S10 one is a bit too long. I also heard of folks cutting down the throwout bearing support sleeve a bit as well so it didn't interfere with anything.

If I have any issues with my NWC tranny, I'll swap in my WC S10 and get the aftermarket disc.

Good luck.

Re: put a t5 onto my 67 250, what clutch.

i had a spacer plate made at a local machine shop that is 1/2" thick to accomodate for the longer input shaft, as well as had the input shaft bearing cap machine flat and had them make a ring to extend the fact of the bearing cap so it'd still make contact with the bellhousing so it won't walk inside of it destroying the tranny. then all thats left is trimming the collar down to expose the splines and putting it together.

it is the best thing i've done to my truck, that and my new 17" american racing torq thrust IIs

Yeah, I got lucky with having a pre '68 Bellhousing with the smaller opening.. the T5 fit right in. And with the Camaro xmission, there was no need for spacers. I've seen folks shim it up with washers, but it destroys the input shaft before long.

The machined rings and spacers that seem to keep showing up on the market are a really nice fix for the issue.
