UPS just ticked me off

I moved the car into the garage a little while ago. I shut the door and had time to plug up the code reader, scan for codes, plug the #4 plug wire and plug. Walked out of the garage. Now this whole 20 min or so, the salamander heater was blasting (read lots of noise), and radio was on loud enough to be heard over the heater. The noise can be heard to the road.

So I am heading in call for parts, but detour to the mailbox and I see big fresh boot prints in the falling snow. Yep, they go in and back out. Nothing on the porch. I walk in and on the floor is a package! THE JACK WAGON OPENED MY FRONT DOOR! I am not a happy camper right now. I realize he was trying to help keep the package dry, but come on! Bad,bad idea, bad, bad thinks could have come from it.

I am still thinking about calling UPS, but I really don't want to get the guy fired, just tuned up a little.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

I'd call as that guy will get shot eventually or at least down here. At least your guy delivered to the correct house. I have issues with UPS here taking my stuff to the house on the opposite end of the street and leaving it. They're kind enough to walk down and let me know I have packages at their house.

Sounds like a no win situation. Would you have been mad if he left it in the snow? Mad if you had to go to ups to pick it up? I would have been upset if they opened my house door also...

What if the driver called out that he'd set the package inside, but he wasn't heard over the heater and radio? Just a thought....

Re: UPS just ticked me off

I had an agreement with the ups guy and gal where I lived before moving to Idaho to where to put a pkg if we were not home.. right beside the rear door,,under cover of the roof..never had no problems .. but every situation is some what different ,,but to open my doors to my house with out asking first does not get it with me either..

No foot prints toward the garage. Never came close to it. On the porch, beside the door is a rocking chair with no snow and a cushion. The package would have also set on the door sill plate and leaned on the door. He had options, he chose poorly and a bit dangerously.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

If you complain he'll just be rewarded. Lets say he gets suspended for three days. No biggie he's a Teamster. He'll get time off while a union BA fights for him. In the end the Union agrees to a settlement which pays the driver more than what he would have earned working. I did that job for eleven years it was not uncommon to knock on a door and have it open. When It did I'd slide the package inside and quietly shut the door. Personally I'd just make a point to talk to him about it. Be thankful the person that walked through your unlocked door did so with good intentions.

Probably a newbie seasonal driver with good intentions that doesn't know any better. Better than the ones that steal your stuff or just throw it at your door.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

I think he had good intentions and was doing you a favor keeping it dry. If you don't want it to happen again either leave a note stating where you want it left or keep the door locked. This time of year is pretty stressful for the delivery industry and I'm pretty sure he was trying to do the right thing.

Yea, my unlocked door, while I was home. Did I mention that I carry? Only minutes separated a good day from a very bad day. And I mentioned that I think his intentions were good or the police would have been involved. Then he could get 3 days off and community service.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

About 15 years back I lived 5 miles down a dirt road in the swamp. Had problems with UPS finding it. Long story short, they can put maps and instructions in the computer so when your name comes up the driver knows what you want, you could have them save where you want your package left if you're not there. Like I say, it was 15 yrs ago, but it might be something to look into. And I agree with you, I'd a been smokin too if somebody opened my door without me knowing about it. That was a capital B, capital A, capital D, bad idea.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

I bet it was the best intentions but went too far. I've had a mail lady give her husband my address because from my mail she knew I had a business that might have some equipment he needed. Long story short he stopped by and told me who he was and I helped him find what he needed. I thought that what she did could get her in trouble but it didn't bother me although it was weird lol. But opening your door is a little to far I agree.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

I guess I still live in a good part of the world. My UPS driver knows me by name and has my cell number. I also gave him the pass code to my garage door so he can leave packages inside when I'm not home.

I do live where you can't buy anything local except ciggs and gas, so UPS is my brown santa. I order 90% of my parts online because it is over 50 miles to the "local" parts store that usually has to order the part I need, and that takes 3 days to get.

Long story short....the guy was helping you out, especially if you live where someone might decide to take your package off the front porch for you.

I would give him a break for keeping your **** safe. I also have a gun close to hand, but I check first before I shoot......sometimes!

Around here if a package sets out in sight it's open season for thieves! I think he did you a favor and your complainin if you"Carry" you should have some common sense to realize he's a delivery man and not a Thief.

Re: UPS just ticked me off

He had good intentions, he probably knocked first, but also heard loud music coming from the garage and assumed you couldn't hear so opened door and slid package in. He should have banged on the garage door though. Next time you get a package from him I would say thanks but be careful someone else may have shot you for opening their door. Make him think about it rather than yelling at him.
We are on good terms with ours, my teenage son help him fix his ipod while he stopped to deliver packages to us.

Is it me or do packages that require signatures only arrive when your not home? lol

My wife just told me that the ups guys aren't allowed to knock on multiple doors, as some people consider that harassment.

Maybe a note saying I can't hear knocking please ring doorbell, then have a extra loud doorbell buzzer in the garage?

Re: UPS just ticked me off

I would let it go, I would say he heard your radio and working garage and knocked on door, then sat the package inside. The way stuff is getting stolen off peoples doors steps, I think he did you a favor by sitting it inside. Lock the door from now on, thats what I do when we are out by the pool or in the back yard, or when I'm out working on trucks, that way no one can get in. Our UPS, Fed Ex, USPS, drivers set packages in our cars sometimes when we have our dogs out, better than sitting them out by the fence or out where the dogs can pee on them
