how many amp alternator do i need?

i have an 83, sbc with dual electric fans, no power windows, no power locks. when the fans turn on at idle, engine bogs. the alternator was on a 305 truck so not really sure how many amps it currently is pushing.

adventually i am going to be running HIDs and 2 compressors......

what is my best choice for a new alternator?!?!?!

Re: how many amp alternator do i need?

Are you trying to find the minimum you can get away with or are you looking for a system that can handle future expansions?

The fans and compressors can draw a lot of current and a lot of older alternators don't deliver much current at idle.
