Any BBC block prep tricks before it goes to the machine shop???

My 454 block is really close to heading to the machine shop for its 496 conversion. I thought now would be a good time to make any improvements before it goes the the machine shop. That way all the metal can be cleaned out before it's assembled.

I was thinking of removing the casting flash from the slots pictured. Can you guys think of anything? Thanks!

I was thinking of something but then I saw your avatar and my brain locked up

Guess you could put a chamfer on sharp corners to reduce stress risers. Not sure if there are any places you wouldn't want to do that though...

Seek help, you are just not right

But on a completely different subject, that Avenger I bought from you was awesome. Put it on during my last leave... nice, lots of power! The old TH350 in my truck lasted most of my heavy throttle romp around the block

Your truck got me thinking M20,21,22... had one back in the day and never been the same since!

I think he was talkin BUICK....different thoughts tho? You should send all the pcs to me (before you spend too much coin)...I will send you a good sb to run in that old truck All jokes aside, just cut the flashing, like you see it, & radius any return holes for the oil to drain back to the pan. If you said BBO, I have been inside of the Olds BB with a die grinder, did restictors, & slotted the mainbearings to fit the bill....on the BBC, I cant say, but your eyes are good, you will see it Just one more thought...drop the heads on the block, & check the drain back holes on the ends? If the hole is smaller in the block, mark em with a sharpie, & trim the block? Best of fun, crazyL

Re: Any BBC block prep tricks before it goes to the machine shop???

BOP, including the big Caddy, were all cool as he!!. None of them had the 'beef' in the the lower end of the block like that BBC had tho A set of main studs on the bottom, & a 6000 rpm range, on the shift...I dont think I would worry about that 2 bolt block....crazyL

Might as well go ahead and remove all the flashing cast that you can. If you read my build thread that is exactly what I did.

Looks like a great start but why did you take a mason block and cut it in half then stick it on the front of your air cleaner??

Bet she scoots.
