Help Identifying Rearend
Hey Team:
I am doing a lot of reading and coming to the realization that I need to know what rear end I have...from what I read, I believe I have an Eaton. Please help me identify this rear end, also what are some pros and cons to this particular model? I am planning a dd restoration and want something that isnt harsh on mpgs, but also can handle the occasional 4000 lb trailer pull. Mahalo!

Re: Help Identifying Rearend
Also, I plan on putting a 700r4 in with probably the 292 hp cpp crate engine. If that helps your analysis.

Yes, that would be the Eaton, probably an HO52. I think parts are getting hard to find for them, especially drums if you need them.. Most of them were 4.10's or 4.56 gears. If it is a 4.10 that wouldn't be too bad with the 700r4. LockDoc

What do people usually swap out for, if they have this model Eaton. I am unfamiliar with gears in differentials, but from what I can gather, 3.73 is best for the 700r4. Is that correct? If so, what rearend would I ideally need to find?

I'm not really up on all of the rear end choices but I put a Dana in my Suburban. Maybe some of the other members will chime in here... LockDoc

Re: Help Identifying Rearend
I've heard that the 14bff parts will work in the Eaton.
