THAT is why I carry daily

Just had an incident which I quickly deflated by strong words and a jacket sweep. I went to a local pizza shop for a take-out lunch. (the owner knows me and respects my lifestyle) As I was walking out to my car I noticed a man of questionable repute standing around the corner. I changed my routine by placing the food on seat from pass. side of my car (away from him) and went to get in drivers door. The guy walks up, gets too close for my comfort and has an aggressive look on his face. I swept my jacket and had my right hand on my weapon while left hand was up and told him "get away from me!!" I saw his eyes move from my face and left hand to my right hand and my friend Smith. He then quickly moved back and around the corner. I waited there at the ready until I was sure he was far enough away and I felt comfortable again.

scary situation and I think I handled it OK.

Glad to hear you handled it well. I think I would called the authorities afterward to let them know he was there. Their presence would have made him shuffle away if he had any bad intentions. That's also why I always have mine on me.

Re: THAT is why I carry daily

I had some D/A come at me quickly as I left the store. I caught him out of the corner of my eye I stopped and turned taking a defensive stance. He said "I just wanted to borrow your ID so I could buy some beer". Really?

We used to just ask the adults to buy it for us.

Yeah, way to go on being alert and ready. I think I would have reported that, also, for the sake of others. I figure whatever he was up to,he wasn't done yet.

It's probably already too late and didn't turn out this way, but it probably would have been a good idea to call the cops, if even to stave off, the call that this guy did to the cops.

Re: THAT is why I carry daily

I had a similar situation last night. As I was loading my toddler in the truck an S10 came rolling through the alley eerily slow and when I looked up he had his eyes glued to my open garage. He saw me and gave it a little gas but as soon as he got past the fence line he stopped and turned around to look out the back window. Creepy enough for me, so I spun around and pulled my pistol out of the truck and what do you know... He sped off down the alley.

after our "encounter" I waited and saw him leave the area. I prefer to have the cops fill out paper work while we as citizens police ourselves

I did NOT show my gun, that could be used against me and charges filed for "brandishing". It is not for show and tell, it's for protection.

Re: THAT is why I carry daily

I was thinking of the next guy. If this guy was a threat to you,he'll be a threat to the next guy...or woman...or kid. And,not everyone carries

I don't carry...heck I don't even have a gun. LOL! Our Oregon laws are so stupid. People have gone to jail for defending themselves. Basically you have to let the attacker punch you to death before you can shoot in self-defense. So..gives me a good excuse to leave my truck looking like it does so idiots leave me alone. But looks like I'll be getting a rifle to hang across the back window of my truck.

I did that when I used to hunt.... wouldn't advise leaving one there, it just invites thieves to break into your truck and walk off with your rifle.

Free advice, feel free to ignore. It won't bother me...

When hunted I'd always spread a a few shells or bullets on my dash board. I started doing this when I had a Jeep CJ it was pretty vulnerable to theft. I figured if somebody was eyeballing it they'd think twice. They would have no idea if I was a mile into the woods or 20'. I never had a problem.
