After the storm.........I'M BACK!!!!

July 22, 2003, at 6:55 AM, A severe storm hit Memphis TN.

Peak straight line winds were clocked at 103 MPH. Over 330,000 household lost power, several hundred homes were totaled, the new stadium being built was damaged as well as two cranes bent from the wind, the Gibson Guitar factory on Beale Street collapsed. Clark Tower had windows blown out, etc, etc, etc.

My house had the roof damaged, windows gone, trees on all my trucks and boat. I now have water damage in two areas that will require new sheet rock and paint. It took 2 days before I could even leave my subdivision.

I lost power for two weeks!!!, actually 15 days. I was unharmed (physically), but will take several more months before I can say my pocketbook and property will recover. I had to through away over $200 in food, $500 in cloths, and $1000 in property that was damaged. That doesn't include the $800 damage to my 03 Ram, the $2000 uninsured loss to my 71 GMC, and the total loss of my Jet Boat. I still have a full size oak tree that is split from the ground to about 30 foot, and is leaning toward the house.

I hope everyone else in the Memphis surrounding area is okay from the storm, and I must say a prayer for the 7 people that died in the storm, and the people still suffering without a home or electricity.

Man, that sucks. Everyone has been concerned if you were OK. It's good to hear news, but this is not the news we wanted to hear. It's great to hear you are OK physically, but the damage you sufferd is not. One thing is for sure, you can replace the monetary things, but your life couldn't be.

your homeowners ins should cove all the thing that were not covered by other insurances. Or does this fall onto the "act of God catagory"

Sorry for your losses...

My younger sister lives in Horn Lake, MS. The house across the street from them was a total loss. The owner had let the insurance lapse. Talk about something that really pulls a vacuum (sucks)....

Glad to hear you are all okay.

Thanks everyone for the concern and condolences. That is what really makes this board special.

Yes insurance will cover almost everything for me. The cloths and furniture they had to adjust for depreciation which I am taking a whooping on. My Ram comes out of the shop by Friday. The 71 GMC they totalled and only gave me $900, but let me keep it. Luckily for me I had already bought a new cab and bed for the truck, and they were not damaged. The jet boat was sitting in the driveway (for 5 years now, waiting for restoraton). The windshield is broke, and the body has cracks in front right and rear transum area.

I see we all have another new member from the Memphis area. I'm sure there was a welcome post that I missed, so here is my official welcome to ya. We are going to have to meet. I was hoping to get a Mid-South board meeting organized for the summer (still hoping).

Weasel, your memory serves you well, Jackson was leveled the last days of April this year.

Thanks again everyone for worrying about my where-abouts. I feel all fuzzy inside knowing there are people that care, and have never met face to face. I again must say this is the best board on the net.

Glad to hear insurance is covering most of your stuff and that you didn't get hurt. 100 mph straight line winds is crazy. Last year we had a storm that blew through here with a microburst 2 miles wide right through our area. We had a lot of tree damage, and some property damage. Those winds were only estimated at about 80 mph or so. We lost power for almost a day. I thought that was terrible, lol. I couldn't have even imagined what you went through.
