V8 in place of 216 with 3 speed and stock rear
I know this has been asked 100 times but I couldn't find exactly what I want to know. If I want to take out my 216 and put a v8 in and keep my 3 spd on the column and factory rear what will I need. I do have a 55-57 bell housing but I was wondering if anyone made a conversion for the dog ears since the crossmember is flat. Also if I run headers can I keep my stock 3 speed linkage. I have access to v8s but no 235 currently and my babbet rod motor is done unless I want to put a small fortune to it.

Wont the saginaw 4 bolt trans pattern bolt up to a later than 57 bell housing? The 3 sp should have a 2 bolt mount boss under the trans to build from when you run a rear crossmember. A ton of options for the 3 bolt small block side mount .

Re: V8 in place of 216 with 3 speed and stock rear
I thought a 51 had insert bearings but not completely fitted. It used small shims on the rod bolts to establish oil clearance. Seems those could be done for a moderate price if you really want to keep it.
