Starting a motor that has set up for a year

I just picked up an 04 Escalade ESV with the LQ9 as a donor for a swap into my 86 C-10 stepside. It has been sitting for about a year without being started. I was told when I got it that the fuel pump was bad. The couple had been going through a divorce and neither was willing to have it fixed as it was an extra vehicle for them. I would like to get it running to make sure there are no issues before pulling the motor. Is there anything I should do to it before I try to start it? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've posted this question elsewhere, just wanting to get different opinions. I really don't want to do anything that may hurt it.
