Heater Core Question
In the picture below is an original heater core with a replacment new OEM thermatic control valve. I would like to consider keeping this as I would NOT have to modify the top of the heater box but cutting a larget hold on it (New core piping is not the same as OEM cores). but if prudance and common sense play a part I'm more than willing to change.
The new after market deluxe heater cores do not have this valve. If I'm not mistaken, some guys use the after market cores and simply put a on/off valve on the incoming line that would provide hot radiator fluid to the core when needed. Does anyone else use a OEM set up? Or can you provide some pictures of how you rigged your up? Thanks

Re: Heater Core Question
I had the same deluxe heater in my 63 with the pictured Ranco valve. The valves do pop up from time to time on ebay for around $50. What I did with my core was purchase a new deluxe core, and took my OEM core to our local radiator shop and for around $40 had then use my original tanks on the new core. I'll see if I can find the thread.
Check out heatercontrolvalve.com he can rebuild the valves also

Re: Heater Core Question
I did the same thing. Valve off eBay, and converted a replacement core from rockauto at my local radiator shop. I have also seen replacement rubber parts to fix the valves.
