Hubcap Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm running late-model Chevy wheels on my '71 C2500 and the stock rear hubcaps for those wheels don't fit over the rear hub on my truck. I've seen these wheels used on our trucks with rear hubcaps but I sure don't know what they would be. Is there anyone who sells extended/bigger ones? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

There is a guy on E-Bay that sells some special lug nuts that has been made up to fit the older threads on your truck but still have the outside threads to screw the plastic caps on to. If I remember his screen name is something like MR lug nut. or some variation on that. On the depth thing on the amount of axle housing sticking out, I think the answer may be in the single rear wheel hub cab for the same year model truck you got your alloys from. those wheels have been around for a long time now since 99 in the pick up and they also used them in the 8 hole Suburban when it came to be in the newer sheet metal in the 2000 year model [or when ever it came to the newer style. It seems to me it was a year or two behind the truck.]

So what you're saying is, that if I get the special lug nuts that the plastic will screw on to, it will pull the hubcap down over the axle housing?

No, it needs spacer to run those over a full float hub. Trevor

Those centers work with 14-bolt and HO52, you have a Dana 60. What you're asking about is known as a center cap. No hubcaps since '91

You can run the caps that were originally used on these wheels with a Dana if you use a relatively thin spacer and these lug nuts (assuming your lugs are 9/16"). This seller also has the 1/2" nuts.

Use the center cap off the rear of a late model 1ton. They are bigger to go over the hub. You also need the special lugnuts to hold them on.

You can get those duplex 9/16s from any tire store

Thanks for the help, guys. I think I've solved the problem. I found some larger 1-tons on Craigslist.

By 1-ton caps, if you mean dually, I think the diameter may be too large to properly seat in the wheel recess . Even the caps for the wheels used on the van wheels that are almost identical to the truck caps are a bit too large. Please let us know what you find out.

This is true on dually caps and they seat differently on steel wheels.

I must have rambled to much in my post as I often do. I thought I made it clear to try centers off a single wheel one tone truck with the alloy wheels and you should be good to go. Please let me know if that is incorrect. Jim

I don't think there is any difference between the 3/4 ton and 1 ton single rear wheel caps for the 2001-2007 alloy wheels. They are all one size (front and rear) as far as I've been able to determine. BUT, I'd sure like to know for sure.
