spark plug wire questions points styles wires on HEI cap

So I have a 64 c10 that has a sbc350 with HEI. The Issue that I am having is that the spark plug wires hit the firewall when I advance the dizzy past approximately 10 degrees. I am looking into using wires that have the cap style ends that go straight up instead of the ones with a 90 of the dizzy. Are there any issues or other ideas that I can look into?

I have been looking at ones like these and they say that they are HEI compatible.

Any thoughts?

If you got room to go straight up, shouldn't be a problem.
Why not just change out the ends on the one or two that cause the interference.

Agree! Save some bucks If you don't want to mess with the ends, you can pick up 1 or 2 wires @ the local speed shop? I think the plug wire end will fit tight enoungh on the cap (may trim the boot back a tad)....but will lay this back to Geezer to confirm Longhorn

I've built every set of wires I've ever installed. Cheap and fun.

She runs just fine, so I'm in no major hurry. I need to get this issue fixed before I can adjust my timing. Let me know, if not I don't mind buying a couple wires or even a new set that I can custom build.

Re: spark plug wire questions points styles wires on HEI cap

I would say at most three of them could benefit from going straight up instead of 90.

Re: spark plug wire questions points styles wires on HEI cap

I'm going to check my boxes also, I should have an msd set somewhere. I'll post back in the morning. Around 9:00

I ran 10.4mm Taylor's. All 90* boots on the passenger side. (2) straight boots on the drivers side. It's tighter than a fat girls sock on the distributor cap.

This is the set I thought I had left over. Pretty cheap and worked well for years. I run hooker super comps and the clearances were fine.

Re: spark plug wire questions points styles wires on HEI cap

How about just moving all the wires over 1 post. It might give you the room you need to advance. Like the other guys suggested you can get new ends for the wires. Any speed shop will have them. Also if you go the website for taylor ignition they have all the accessories you could need. http://www.taylorvertex.com/Products/

Re: spark plug wire questions points styles wires on HEI cap

Back at you, I did check....kids, grand kids in on the weekend. All I had left, Was the 90 degree boots/fittings? I agree with Cable....move em one hole , & turn the dist....Or you could pull the damn thing out, take a BFH & a body spoon to clearance the firewall? Many ways you can fix, its about what works for you Longhorn
