Where Do You Hail From?

I just Googled my town to double check myself on what I thought the elevation was. I read the Wiki thingy and I thought maybe a thread for anyone who wants could tell or show us something about their town. I've looked up other towns I was curious about and I think pretty much any town will have some info listed, though maybe not so complete. There's a place where you can add info, too. Like my town, they have no info on geography, which to me is it's most interesting feature. I'll have to see about that. Two of Maryland's major rivers find their beginnings in the first major ridge as you travel west from the Chesapeake Bay in the piedmont region. I am in the valley to the west at the headwaters of Liganore Creek, which flows into the Monocacy River, to the Potomac, then the Chesapeake. The Patapsco (South Branch) and Patuxent rivers begin on the eastern side and flow directly into the Chesapeake. The Patapsco runs right to the Baltimore Harbor area while the Patuxent flows much farther south before reaching the bay. There is a train tunnel most in this town don't even know about. It's the longest tunnel till you get to The Rockies. four counties converge just south of town, and from that point the four counties west run from PA to VA borders. It is central MD where Eastern and Western divide. I live a few miles north of town on the road that is the county line for two northern counties in that convergence.

Re: Where Do You Hail From?

I can't tell you where I'm from since I'm in witness protection. Back 14 years ago aliens attacked and I became an informant. It seems they all stop by my house and spread out from here to parts I really can't mention. All I can say though is my town started out by a Native American succumbing to gravity in the south east corner of the southern half of the northern most section of the central area of a piece of land our country bought from France

Re: Where Do You Hail From?

I understand, but I already knew all this . This is the town I live "near", so I didn't quite give the coordinates for an air strike on my place. It's given under my name already, so nothing new given out. Uncle buckshot has a good eye on the place from the hill above. I hear about any vehicle that even slows down in front of my place when I'm gone.

If there is anything of interest about any town in your area, this is the place to shre. It's not about giving away your location, more about letting the rest of us know things of interest , no matter how small, in yur area. I wasn't born here and my family roots aren't here, either. That town is up in the mountains and my forefather was the first white man to settle the region. He was an Indian trader and was given his land by the Shawnee. The town of Friendsville is celebrating it's 250th birthday this year

Ok, I'll join in. But if you want to know where I live, you'll have to just look for the drones and black suburbans.

I ran across a blog the other day that was written back in 2013. Lots of pictures of here and the surrounding area. I think for someone who wasn't from here, he did a great job with this.

Here is my hometown. Swallowed up by people escaping from Massachusetts. Most of the original locals have been forced out due to the extreme raises in taxes and costs of living.

Re: Where Do You Hail From?

been hanging around this town for 38 of my 48 yrs....
https://www.google.ca/search?q=chill...ed=0CAkQ_AUoAw
used to be a nice small town of 10 000 'till about 15 yrs ago, council went on a zoning spree approving EVERYTHING & turned our sleepy little town into what wikipedia calls

"The city, once a small agricultural town, "has become an example of sprawling suburbia and bad city planning."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilliwack

3 more yrs left on the house, may be time to move.....

Moved to: Lewiston, Idaho
Moved to: Sitka, ALaska... 2 places in 5 years.
Moved to: Anderson, California
Moved to: Blue Lake, California
Moved to: Dundee, Oregon
Moved to: Lafayette, Oregon
Moved to: McMinnville, Oregon (4) places
Moved to: Tigard, Oregon

Final move... body in an Urn on the mantle of AAA and the rest of me in a Heavenly Mansion!

Best places I lived for different reasons: Sitka, McMinnville and Sherwood.

I'm really enjoying learning a little about everyone's town/city/boondocks. I've lived part of my life in a few other areas, but holding off posting any wiki stuff to give someone who may be more fixed there to do that. I have lived in the Ft. Collins, CO area, as well as Pagosa Springs,CO. I've also lived in Fortuna,CA, Mountainaire,AZ (near Flagstaff), Buxton,NC, and Stuart,FL.

Re: Where Do You Hail From?

... Born and raised in extreme southwest MN, ... and as a drunk crow would fly I live about 30 miles west of there now in southeast SD.

Hometown had a part of Ken Burn's WAR series that made news. ... also at one time there was a longhaired teenager that lived there that smoked and drank a lot, but he had a pretty high school girlfriend who provided balance to his young and impressionable life .... True story.

also lived in ND for a year in 1987/88, but other than that I have been a home area boy.

Guymon, Okla.

"It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here"

It's not the place to live for everyone, but if you like solitude, peace, quiet, great helpful neighbors and independent farming/ranching way of life, it couldn't be better.

Many guys like to restore old tractors, trucks, cars, or old machinery for pastime in slow seasons in their shops. Not for show and tell, but personal enjoyment.

Women can feed a "belly-bustin" meal off the tailgate of a pickup to a harvest crew in the field, change diapers, drive a tractor or grain truck as well as anyone, when needed.

It's weather can give you all four seasons within 24 hrs.

Sadly, it's a dying way of life. Young people are moving to the bright lights and mega-farms/ranchs are taking over.

Sounds good to me. I think any place left like that has the same story to tell. Farming has become another corporate industry, but real farmers being who they are hang on as long as they can
