Tell me about these firewall markings
I was reading the thread about production lines and something about the markings. What are they and what do they mean. Is there some secret code for reading them? Mine don't match the VIN.

Re: Tell me about these firewall markings
Post some pics.
Usually they are option codes, or a heads up for downstream workers on paint colors and such. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=sequence http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=graffiti http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=graffiti http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=graffiti http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=graffiti They will not match the VIN. Nobody in the vehicle assembly plant cares about the VIN - everything is keyed off the build sequence (or manifest sequence) number. The build sequence number is an attempt to control the flow of subassemblies into the main line, and keep everything in order. The VIN is just a part to be installed on that particular build, just like a tune up label, SPID label or Mulroney window sticker. K

Re: Tell me about these firewall markings
I'm talking about the ones on top of firewall by wire channel.
There was also some hint of that being related to fixes or some small defect I think

Not related to fixes. Repairs are logged on a specific repair ticket and then "bought off" by the repairman (and inspector) by using a hole punch with unique characters (hearts, moons, clovers). The characters can be traced back to the particular repair person or inspector if need be. The repair tickets are bundled together as the vehicle goes through the build process and then are thrown away once the vehicle is shipped. Repairs are not normally written on the vehicle itself. K
