Smile Quick speed minder question

Guys/Gals
What years were the speed minders available in these trucks?....if they were discontinued, or when they were discontinued any idea as to why?
Thanks

My guess is that speed minder was discontinued when cruise control became available. I suggest that because the GM Heritage Center info kits show both available in 1969 and only cruise in 1970.

Re: Quick speed minder question

Excellent info guys, thanks.
I learn something everytime I'm on here at the 'Chevy Central Info Centre'....lol.
That said, I guess that means it you have to drill a hold thru a '71-'72 Bezel to accomodate the earlier speed minder if you found one.
All Good

Re: Quick speed minder question

Unless you already have one I think you have to drill the hole anyway. I know the location of mine [3 hole gauge] was a little different than the loaded cluster. I thought about adding mine to the tach/ vac dash that 70 short fleet built me.

Re: Quick speed minder question

My brother has a 69 with speed warning in it. It must be a early build cause it is a cst with no cargo light or headliner. I can't 100% prove it was there from new as he removed and painted over the spid when restored but it was very original when he did the rest 10 years ago. Also had no tach.

Re: Quick speed minder question

Yes, the speedwarning was available in 69. (last year) Pretty sure you could get cruise control in 68, but not sure about 67.

No cruise in 67. No 396 in 67. But no side markers in 67!

Re: Quick speed minder question

Speedwarning was available on Buicks until about 76, most were accompanied by cruise control as well.

Re: Quick speed minder question

Speed minder would be a nice option to add but from what I can tell they're a bit hard to find and not without some cost, LOL My '71 4x4 has it's own speed minder linked to my gas gauge. If I don't watch my speed the gas gauge drops really quick. Some where in the 11 mpg range is usual.
