Rochester quad?
What's #1 in this image called? I believe this is the felt gasket that sits between the carb and air cleaner. Also, does anyone know a great source for identifying carburetor parts, including the automatic choke? My 71 was replaced by a manual choke, but I'd like to restore it. The 72 has a automatic choke but may not be complete or working. Pics of a complete choke on a truck would be great. I'm assuming the choke system is the same, big or small block. Thank you.

Re: Rochester quad?
The correct carb for 71-72 is a 4mv quadrajet, 7041218 I think is the proper number. It was a auto choke controlled by a bimetallic spring on manifold, not electric. The electric choke came later 76-78 range. The carbs are a little different big block and small, it is based in the lower base plate. The small block carb should have kick down arm while big block will not have the arm.

Try here. Some good pics or diagrams for your choke.

The spring fits inside of the metal housing on the intake. There are a few listed on e-Bay. Everyone lists them as Corvette springs, I guess they think they will get more for them that way.... ![]() http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...pring&_sacat=0 I think you adjust them by bending the rod that connects them to the choke lever. Re: Rochester quad?
You can buy the replacement spring at a parts store. I just replaced mine about 3 years ago and remember it being pretty cheap.

Re: Rochester quad?
At first glance I thought so too, but I'm not so sure: http://quadrajetparts.com/quadrajet-...128_25_39.html
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the spring mounts to the manifold using one screw. There are two holes in the manifold. One may be for a pin on the bottom of the housing cover.
