I am pretty sure....
It is an 85 but I am not certain. It was in the back of a 75 I rescued from the scrapyard.
Is this an 85 or could it be another year? Thanks Mario

The simulated rubber trim design looks like an 82 to me.
So do the stripes. Mike. ![]() |

Re: I am pretty sure....
Something on there has a date code in it. Show me the holes where the washer bottle mounts and I can narrow it down if it's all original sheetmetal. Otherwise, it could be 83-87.

Re: I am pretty sure....
I think the washer bottle is still there. I am taking apart tomorrow and I will snap a shot of the washer bottle.
Thanks Mario

Re: I am pretty sure....
If it has the pump in the bottle, 85-87. If not, 83-84.

Re: I am pretty sure....
The hood if original would indicate a K5/Burban front end right?

Re: I am pretty sure....
1. Not the washer bottle. That is the coolant recovery bottle. Good news is that changed too in 1985. Moved from the inside of the core support under the battery tray to the inner fender. Yours is the 85-87 version.
2. The 84 might mean late 84 (the 85 model year started in August/September of 1984) but it might just be a sequence number that is coincidental to the year. 3. As for the K5/Suburban comment... I don't understand that one. The "Silverado 10" rules out a K5. If the hood ornament makes someone think it is a suburban, they were available (and pretty common) on pickups too.

Re: I am pretty sure....
Thanks for the info. I have mostly been a 67-72 guy and have only owned one other square body. That was a wound earful 76 K10 swb. One of the trucks that I wish I had kept.
This one that I have now is a rescue. The PO threatened to crush it so I went and paid him what they would have. This front end was sitting in the bed as if someone was going to install it at some point.

Re: I am pretty sure....
If you can get the hood popped, check the top of the support for the emissions sticker. Bottom line on it will say "this vehicle conforms to emissions standards for the 19__ model year"

Re: I am pretty sure....
I suspect that "84" might be the build sequence number (short for "123484", or whatever).
You might find it also written on the underside of the hood, inside the fenders, on the bottom of the grille and/or on the front of the radiator support. My truck was number "87". K ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: I am pretty sure....
Any ideas on how to accomplish this task? No cable and the latch is not catching.

Not catching and is not the hold up.

Re: I am pretty sure....
Do you have a hood latch to look at for reference? I have popped cable-less latches, it's tricky but not impossible. I put a small wedge under the driver side corner of the hood and used a small rod with a hook bent in it to reach behind the latch and grab the lever that the cable attaches to. Something like an old stainless antenna would do the trick, it takes a good pull. (The first few pieces I tried un-bent on me.) You want just enough wedge to get in there, too much wedge will make it that much more difficult to pop.

Re: I am pretty sure....
Thanks fellas, i got it open. I tried the hook but could not get it released. I ended using two wood wedges about 5 inches from center on each side and removed the bolts. Date for emissions says 86.
It is so much easier telling years on the older brothers not to mention they did not have all the security features. That is what this forum is about though. Discussing, debating and teaching the history of the bowtie. Thanks again!
