LT1 Corvette donor
Hi,
I've got a chance to buy a 94 C4 Corvette that had a fire and burned out the interior. It has the LT1 engine with an auto trans. The engine compartment was not harmed nor was the running gear, the fire dept arrived fast and put it out before the gas tank blew. My question is: is this engine and trans worth using in my 65 pickup? It is the reverse flow heads and sequential injection. I know nothing other than carbs so would it be very hard to get a new wiring harness and PCM? The story is the heads are rebuilt and worked over and the engine is fairly fresh. Thanks for any ideas, Jon

Re: LT1 Corvette donor
Yes it would be worth it in my opinion. Many people make and rework the stock LT harness. I think Blackbear is the favorite here. Good luck!

Re: LT1 Corvette donor
Thanks for the reply and thoughts. I'll check into the harnesses and see what it will take. I think I got a good deal on the car so maybe my truck will get a Vette drive line.

Re: LT1 Corvette donor
Yes, those are great engines. There is a ton of aftermarket stuff for them, including harnesses and ECU's. That would be a cool swap into your 65. Add a cam, headers and a tune and it really wakes those up. Out of the box the power ratings were 300hp/330tq (some say 340tq for the 93-96).

Re: LT1 Corvette donor
They are good motors, my 93 Corvette ran mid 13s stock and turned a touch over 275rwhp/310rwtq. I have had 3 and lost 2 opti sparks when the water pump started leaking which was 80-100k miles. I would plan on replacing the opti as I assume it was wet after the fire.
I have been out of the LT1 game for a while so I do not know who is making a reliable optispark and would search camaroz28.com, LS1tech and corvetteforum to see who does and how much they cost before buying the motor. I would also consider buying a Gen3 (LS1) ECU conversion and harness if you are planning on buying a harness rather modifying your own. The Gen3 ecu would eliminate the optispark replacing them with coil packs https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...iminating.html The LT1 in my opinion will be in the same ball park of performance HP and MPG as a 5.3 so I would take a look at cost differences between the 2. LT1 carb intakes are available if you want to ditch the efi but I would assume you would still need to run the 4L60E. The carb intake also uses a traditional distributor. A few links for ideas. I believe TPIS makes the AC Compressor delete pulley and it looks like you don't have to buy aftermarket accessory brackets to clear the C10 frame. LT1swap.com is linked in one of the topics below and has wiring diagrams hosted. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=584980 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=365882 Last edited by 93Polo; 05-24-2017 at 11:00 PM. |

Re: LT1 Corvette donor
You will have to install a standard 2wd Output Shaft along with a Extension Housing from a '94-'96 B-Body (Impala/Caprice) to use a C4 4L60E in a truck.
