Wiring Harness Question

Well after about 20 years I'm finally starting to get my Dad's 1970 GMC back together.

Does the rear wiring harness run on the drivers side or the passengers side? It been too many years to remember how I took this apart.

Then 1974ish

Now

Re: Wiring Harness Question

The rear wire harness runs down the driver side of the frame. You're going to have a real nice truck there.

Wow, Your building a Rocket Sled. Good thing you removed the camper, too much wind resistance...What did you use for a drive shaft, and who made it?

Re: Wiring Harness Question

I have to agree with all of the above... Just an FYI... if you plan on an ABS/Tracs system, keep THESE separated from your main rear harness and run them on the right side. The reason for this is EMF (Electro-Magnetic Interference)... it also wouldn't hurt to wrap the wheel speed sensor wiring with aluminum tape.

That is going to be one sweet ride! One note on your Sanden AC compressor.
You need to rotate it up so the ports for the fittings are pointing up. The reason for that is with the ports pointing down the compressor oil will drain out of the compressor when the truck or AC is not being used and that will ruin the compressor.

That's a problem I'm having with the RideTech suspension. I talked to RideTech before ordering and was assured it would fit a long bed. The RideTech does not have any provision to mount the center bearing for a two piece driveshaft. I had a local shop build a one piece shaft. He wasn't comfortable with the length using a 3 inch shaft and used 3.5 inch for the shaft. Now with the suspension unloaded, fully extended, the shaft hits the inside bottom of the cross member. So far RideTech hasn't been much help resolving this. Not sure how to proceed with this problem.

Thanks for the tip. I've FiTech EFI and it is prone to have problems with EMF.

Thanks for the tip too. I'll take care of that.

Re: Wiring Harness Question

Thanks for the reply on the drive shaft, you may have to compromise the fully unloaded with a 1" or more bump stop on the axle. Not what you wanted to hear...post a question in the suspension section, hope you get a good alternative.

Sorry but I think you misunderstood my problem. The drive shaft hits the bottom of the cross member when the suspension is fully extended. Like when suspension is hanging when jacked off the floor. I know might never happen while driving and hit a big bump. Small possibility but coukd happen.

So a bump stop wouldn't really help.
